I'm so excited! 

The Fetts are recanonized as Mandalorian! Jango's a foundling!

This is going to help smooth over some feathers have have been ruffled for over a decade, and once again, I’m left with the impression that Jon, Dave, and co. have made it such a priority to bring some semblance of harmony to this franchise (by being willing to reference not only the original trilogy but the prequels, sequels, animated shows, EU/Legends, comics, video games, and more) and by extension, to bring a little bit of harmony to a very fractured fandom.

Note: this is a recanonization, but it is not a "retcon" as it initially may appear. Instead, this is simply recontextualizing a line that we got from Prime Minister Almec, a character that Dave Filoni has admitted was supposed to be an unreliable narrator. 

In fact, this has been Dave Filoni's plan since Season 2 of The Clone Wars (See video linked in comment below.)

George Lucas insisted that the Fetts were not Mandalorians, but Dave made no secret that he never liked that idea. So, over a decade ago, he already had his own theories that Jango could be a foundling. He gave the line about the Fetts to Almec and made the line as vague as possible so that making Jango a foundling would be an easy addition.

There are several theories that we can identify for why Almec would have said this:

1. Almec may have been entirely sincere. He may simply have been in the dark about Jango being a foundling and not have known that he got the armor from other Mandalorians.

2. Almec truly could be an example of someone who believed that you had to be ethnically Mandalorian in order to bear the title.  

However, even if that is true, as a fan of Satine and the New Mandalorians, I hasten to add that there is no indication that Almec was speaking for the New Mandalorians as a whole. There is zero indication that Satine, her government, or the rest of the pacifists believed that foundlings did not constitute true Mandalorians. I will defend my girl until my dying day.

On that note it is also my birthday, my parents accidentally gave me a Star Wars cake on Star Wars Day. And so HERES THE CAKE 🎂
