I feel guilty using some guy's video of a pirated ROM played on an emulator, but it's appropriate for the topic!
Several attentive kids at GameFaqs noticed that ManaSoft's recently released Commando: Steel Disaster ripped off several games for its soundtrack:
The opening menu song (see above clip) is taken from the Heavyarms stage of SNES Bandai fighter Gundam Wing: Endless Duel
The game over music is a slowed-down version of "Black Omen" from Square's Chrono Trigger
It shouldn't be a surprise that this game, a shooter that copies Metal Slug's design wholesale, would also feature a pilfered soundtrack! Even the Shanghai-based studio's name, ManaSoft, is obviously inspired by Mana series creator Square's defunct brand Squaresoft.
I was only somewhat curious about Commando: Steel Disaster before, but now I really want to play it. Make sure to read Jeremy Parish's preview of the game and why uninspired knock-offs are still worth checking out.
