I know this time he has good reasons for not wanting to fight because they must stay alive to save the future, but it just sounds like a big convenient excuse.
He is acting exactly like he was acting in season 2: every time he fights, it’s because someone tells him that it is the right to do. In season 2 it was Kara, or Alex (with the parasite, when Kara and J’onn were KO), or anyone else. Now in 3x10, Imra told him they should help and he decided to fight only after she talked to him. He has never acted like a hero and he is not one. He never fights for what’s right and he doesn’t stand for people who need it.
So to everyone calling him a hero: he is not a hero and he will never be.

I can’t believe I had to look at this with my own two eyes
I’ve rarely been more upset by a character than I am by man hell. He’s unbelievable. I really truly don’t understand how anyone could like him. I’m not even talking about the other characters, because while it makes no sense that everyone in the show likes him despite all the things he’s done and how despicable he is, their choices and all their actions are dictated by the writers, for better or worse. But what I do not understand is how some fans can actually like him. It just does not make sense to me. Some characters are evil but still have interesting facets. Man hell has absolutely NOTHING interesting, he’s just a piece of crap, nothing else. So why do people like him???
