As someone who speaks both Japanese and English on a passable level, listening to Kojima talk compared to the translator is interesting.
The second thing Kojima says about Mama is "jibun no shinda akachan to shi no sekai de tsunagatte, soko kara ugokenai" and then how sad the situation is. Then the translator talks about how Mama can't move because her baby is on the other side, and that's sad.
Kojima said that she's connected to her dead baby and the world of the dead, and so cannot move from there (her current position). Maybe as a representation that she can't mentally move on as well.
The translator made it seem like the baby was stuck another dimension and it was some kind of inconvenience. Like no, it's dead. This woman gave birth to a dead baby, maybe stillborn, maybe a ghost from the start. That's hella traumatic. And then she's gotta take care of it anyway. The mental toll has gotta be... A lot. That's why it's sad, that's why Kojima says we should feel sorry for her and her situation.
