A playlist featuring Twin Peaks, Mac Demarco, The Growlers, and others
TUESDAY TUNES
isoooo iām back with another addition of some tunes!!Ā
for this past month, iāve been putting together a playlist of my current favorite songs. these are in no particular order, nor is there really any theme to it. well, except for the fact that these songs are really awesome to jam to, and they make me happy.
1. Fade Away- Twin Peaks
now this is probably one of my favorite songs off of Wild Onion, itās quite fun to dance around to in my room all by myself. i can definitely tell that Twin Peaks is becoming one of my favorite bands right now and would kill to see them live. if you haven't checked them out yet, give them a listen, theyāre TOO good.Ā
2. Freaking Out The Neighborhood- Mac Demarco
this song, at least to me, just sounds different from your normal mac demarco stuff. the little guitar riff (my terms might be off, sorry) that plays through out the song is so addicting, and of course, mac just knows how to make awesome music.Ā
3. Love Test- The Growlers
THIs. SONG. is so good. itās probably the best love song iāve ever heard, lyrically. itās definitely one of those songs that gets stuck in your head, after like, 3 listens. my roomie had been playing it nonstop so of course it made its way into this playlist.
4. Trippy Gum- Hinds
now this song comes from a girl band in madrid!!! which i think is so cool. they have a really nice garage rock sound, but you can still hear their accents when they sing which i think is totally cute.Ā
5. Mallrats (La La La)- The Orwells
like i said, this playlist is strictly fun, so this is one for when i wanna dance around and get my energy up. the rowels are a GREAT band and i actually was able to see them perform this live a couple of weeks ago.Ā
6. I Wanna Dance- Skaters
this is another tune introduced to me by roommate!! i. love. this. song. itās the kind of song that you canāt listen to without belting out the lyrics. iāve listened to other stuff from the skaters, and theyāre really good. checkĀ āem out!
7. Beach Porn- The Frights
donāt be frightened by the title, itās actually just a super catchy love song. i love the kind of songs that are really mellow during the verses, but when the chorus hits, it gets all insane and loud. i would loooovveee to see these guys live, theyāre awesome.
8. Irene- Twin Peaks
ahhh, another one. from my favorite band at the moment. this comes from their first record Sunken!! now, they first recorded their stuff using garage band, i think? so the sound quality is definitely telling of that, BUT. it totally completes the album, and makes the songs so much more dreamy and raw and great in general. love this album, and i also love this song.
9. Fired- Tijuana Panthers
once again, another fun song to sing along to. iāve listened to them here and there on spotify, and i can say that theyāve got a decent sound. this song stuck out to me thought because i think the lyrics are kind of funny.
iām not sure that a text post will let me add the playlist here, but i will try to add it in a separate post so yāall can give it a listen :-)
enjoy!!
RELATIONSHIPS 101
now it might just be the fact that iām a relationship virgin (i barely had like one boyfriend in high school), or maybe iām missing out on a big memo that apparently everyone else received.
in todayās generation for people that are my age, relationships just seem so strange and foreign in my eyes. the way that they are portrayed online and judging from the way people think....i feel as if a lot of people think the way theyāre dating someone is super unhealthy...
for instance. this weird fad that seems to be popping up now and again on twitter is being EXTREMELY overprotective. people post conversations with their significant others and basically, the partner is trying to control every single thing the other does. whether itās the way they dress, their social life, or even interacting with other people, people seem to think itāsĀ ācuteā orĀ āgoals AFā to be telling your boyfriend/girlfriend what they can and cannot do. itās quite ridiculous, and i just donāt get it. you like having your bf or gf bossing you around? or acting sexist in certain situations that involve your behavior with others?? why and how is that even the least bit appealing?? because itās actually super unhealthy and can lead to something very dangerous.Ā
another example would have to be my number one pet peeve. INSECURITIES that are blasted online. now donāt get me wrong, everyone has insecurities, and i also get that it happens within relationships. but why do people feel the need to put everything on twitter/instagram? why do you have the guts to call out your own gf/bf for being soĀ āuntrustworthyā online, but you canāt just talk it out like adults? and also, why do you NOT trust someone that you love? why are you committing yourself to a relationship if you think theyāre so disloyal? half of the time, people arenāt even being disloyal anyways. social media has just constructed this insecurity with people so that they think liking someoneās IG photo is some sort of hint at flirtation or dishonesty. ITāS DUMB.Ā
like i said, iāve had one sort-of boyfriend. so there are probably a billion things i just donāt understand about having a serious relationship. i mean, yes iāve attempted to give decent advice to my friends that are struggling with their bf/gfās, but honestly, how many of them took the actual advice??
this post kind of became lost because this is more of a rambling of thoughts than something informative/insightful. goodnight. :-)
xoxo.
YUP, DAS ME
for the past couple of days, iāve been realllllyy thinking about how i want to write this out. especially so that i donāt hurt anyoneās feelings. idk. itās nothing problematic or anything, i just have a lot of thoughts about my life that i feel like putting into a blog post.
coming from a sort of small town, especially a place like vacaville, moving to a place like san francisco can be kind of a culture shock, ya know? i mean, the culture of the bay area is still very evident, even all the way in the vacaville/fairfield/suisun area, but itās still moving from sheltered suburbia, to a big, busy city. luckily enough, my parents took any chance to explore the city, which i am so grateful for! i think if i didnāt come to SF so much before moving here, it definitely would have altered my decision in attending SF state.Ā
but back to what i was saying..vacaville, to me, was just so bland. every school year, it was the same thing. i felt like i was surrounded by people that were kind of just stuck in phase and didn't know to get out. does that make sense? probably not. now, iām totally not trying to perceive myself in a way that i am just oh so different because i wasnāt prom queen, or some weird tumblr-girl crap like that. (because i definitely changed a lot over my high school years haha)Ā
compared to my friends, i knew i was still kind ofĀ āāāādifferentāāāā, but i use that term very lightly because many of the friendships i have made out of vacaville have impacted my life in such positives ways. this is in no way saying that i felt like an outsider, because without a lot of the good friends i had made, i would not be the person that i am today. ANYWAYS. the point iām trying to get across is that...for the first time ever, i feel like i am 100% myself. in high school, it kind of ranged from like, 83% to 90%. but i think that coming to school in SF, i feel like i am where i want to be for awhile. i have found some great people that have really brought out a lot of me that i was too scared to show in high school. (which is strange bc iām all about not caring what people think)
moving to a new place, especially like SF, is really scary. itās different. the people are different. but itās intriguing. and itās always moving, so i can never really be bored. i feel as if i decided to attend sonoma instead of sf, things would be extremely different. yeah, it would be really similar to living in vacaville, but i honestly don't know if i would be as happy as i am right now.Ā
if youāre a senior, and youāre trying to decide what your future holds, go with your gut feeling!!! try to steer away from beingĀ ātooā comfortable, ya know? donāt go somewhere bc itās where everyone else is going, or because itās nothing too different from the present.Ā being in a new place is terrifying, yes, but it can bring so much out of you that you mightāve not known existed!!!!!Ā
my rambling is done now. goodnight :-)
xoxo.

TUESDAY TUNES
heeeEEEeeeeeeeEEeyyy yāall. Iām back with another round of some tunes. A lot of this is just suggestions from my friends, and also me just revisiting some olā favorites.
Iāve slowly been falling back in love with vampire weekend again. Iāve listened to them since middle school, but I like to go in and out pf phases with certain artists/bands so as of recently, theyāre being played nonstop.
1. VAMPIRE WEEKEND
Iāve been going back to their old stuff, especially from Contra. But their more recent album,Ā āModern Vampires Of The Cityā is really awesome! Itās slightly different from their other albums, but itās still Vampire Weekend. Just a little more darker than normal.Ā
FAVES: Step, Ya Hey, Finger Back, and Unbelievers
2. FIDLAR
Thanks to my roommate, I canāt get enough of this band. Theyāre really different from my normal taste, as I usually would lean more towards indie, pop-ish style...these guys, however, sound a lot more raw and loud. Theyāre Garage Rock, so anytime I listen to them, I feel entitled to start a mosh pit in my living room.
FAVES: West Coast, Drone, Stupid Decision
3. BEST COAST
Iāve liked these guys for awhile now...in fact I own their vinyl but itās at home. Some people might label them as boring but I think their sound is super chill and relaxed.Ā
FAVES: Boyfriend, Our Deal
4. GIRLPOOL
Again, my roommate has me hooked on another band. This time, just one specific song, by these lovely ladies. By the timeĀ youāre listening to this, the song itself won't leave your head for like 3 days. It also gives me major nostalgia about certain memories. Great tune!!!!
FAVE: As The World Got Big
xoxo.
BE NICE
I have probably owned a twitter account since, what, my freshman year of high school? The use of twitter and instagram has escalated since their birth, but with their popularity came great consequences.
Social media usually has a bad taste to it, because while it can be great for business, promoting music/films/fashion, or whatever, itās also led to a lot of bullying and bad attitudes as well. In my however many years of using twitter, I donāt think Iāve ever seen so much hatred and disgusting behavior before.Ā
Because social media and the internet in general gives us almost a disguise to hide behind, people feel as if their words canāt really hurt anyone if youāre just typing it in a message or a comment. They donāt understand that their actions canāt just be simply justified because they were on their phones or computer.
What people seem to forget is that even if youāre just spewing hateful words out, shit like that can really destroyĀ someoneās confidence and sense of self-worth. Some have thicker skin, but some donāt.Ā
Even when young men or women are trying to build themselves up and feel good, people tear them down immediately. Why? Is it jealousy? Or is just that these people are downright assholes? Sometimes I really canāt tell.Ā
Most of the time I think the people making these choices to bring others down is that somewhere, deep down, thereās this feeling in them that makes them feel insecure. So making others feel like theyāre below them is whatās bringing them back up from their own insecurities.
People!!!!! There are many others ways to pick yourself up. Donāt put someone down because in the long run, itās going to end with bad consequences and the reactions of people can vary. You could possibly be the cause of someoneās suicide.Ā
Promote some positivity. Promote confidence. Promote love. This whole,Ā āIām totally apathetic and super coolā attitude isnāt cool.Ā
What happened to just being nice?????
TUESDAY TUNES
So since Iāve started living here in SF, Iāve met lots of new friends, which means that some new music has been added into my library.Ā
I thought I would try to incorporate what Iām listening to lately into my blog and come up with a list of whatās been stuck in my head.
Iāve always been the kind of person that just listens to the same band/album over and over, so Iāve been pushing myself to listen to some new stuff! Luckily my roomie and our other friends have helped me out a bit. (she also made me a mix CD which is great because I still think thatās a cool thing to do lmaoo)Ā
Lately Iāve been into a lot indie rock and garage rock, courtesy of my friends suggestions.Ā
No Waves- FIDLAR
This song pertains to the garage rock I mentioned before. Meaning, their sound is a little more raw and not exactly perfect, but it still comes out to sound really great. I love the guitar in the chorus and I can see this never leaving my brain for a long time.Ā
Pizza Party- LāHomme Run
This one is kind of a joke, as the song will probably make you laugh your ass off. If you know who Vampire Weekend is, then you know Ezra Koenig. (the lead singer/guitarist). This was hisĀ ārapā group he had with a friend in college and the song itself is literally about a pizza...but itās also catchy. This was on the mix CD and I canāt stop playing it.Ā
Your Graduation- Modern Baseball
Iām super late on the hype but Iām becoming really fond of this band!! Theyāre kind of emo-ish/punk, but I listen to anything. Their newest album has a lot of relevancy to it and theyāre still kind of new to the scene in terms of popularity.
Hotline Bling- Drake
YES. Of course Iām adding this song because it bumps and Drake never fails to make a hit. This song is played everywhere and Iāll probably get sick of it being overplayed but as of right now, I love it!
Dashboard- Modest Mouse
I know this song is from awhile ago, but this comes from my favorite MM album and I can honestly never get sick of it. Isaac Brock is a lyrical genius. This is just some typical indie rock that I usually listen to but Brockās voice is super unique which is why Iām so drawn to this band.
xoxo.
