2 examples of the proshoot thing: newsies sold so many tickets worldwide to their one off screenings in theatres and it must have made a bomb. And Lin-Manuel Miranda said that the main reason they haven’t released the Hamilton recording was so more people could see it the way it was meant to be seen, live (having seen bootleg and live, the live was sooooo much better and I get his reasons there) Clearly there’s loopholes and they could make so much by sticking it in theatres for one day!
my little sister LITERALLY would’ve killed for one of those tickets. when newsies was put on netflix, she watched it three times in one day. if it ever tours near us, my mom said she’d help her get tickets.
being able to see that proshoot of newsies only made her love it more
i’ll be honest, i’m frustrated that the hamilton recording hasn’t been released. of course!!! i want people to see it live!!! but hamilton is IMPOSSIBLE to see. it’s constantly sold out, like for months and months in the future, and the tickets are typically so expensive i would have to sell a limb to see it. i understand wanting to see shows live. i highly prefer seeing shows live over bootlegs, who doesn’t!! but especially for hamilton, which is now really really really hard to see, even with the lottery, i say it’s time to release that recording
and HONESTLY! i know so many people who would drop everything and go to the theater to see a show they like in theaters. anything other than the low quality bootlegs with bad audio and random long moments of black that we all suffer through just to get a taste of what we’re missing
there are ways broadway can make money aside from making the ticket prices more and more expensive, it’s just a question of when they’re going to get to that point
