This is exactly why women should be a protected category under hate crime and hate speech laws: it might encourage universities to take proper action and formulate effective procedures for dealing with cases like these. Online abuse happens far more regularly than offline abuse; it’s time universities recognise this and start preparing for when it happens.

They are looking to their MPs for answers.The last thing anybody needs is unhelpful and insensitive comments like these when all the person wanted to know was what was being done to support those ineligible for sick pay: a worry that’s on the minds of many self-employed, freelance, part-time and zero-hour contract workers.
