okay, so, there were a few factors combined? first of all, ozai didn’t really leave him any choice — either he were leaving, or staying and being in a very unstable position at the court, to even more, assassinated, because ozai were quickly gaining power. 

secondly, i think iroh has a very strong sense of duty? he still tries to help azula and “fix‘ her not because he really wants her to feel better, but because other ways he would feel very guilty.

Mai had many reasons to leave, and Azula was the one of them. But now, in the dark, everything in her head mixes up and she can’t already tell — why she’s here.

She’s here because she couldn’t stay. She’s here because Azula and Ty Lee are here.

She’s here because she has nowhere else to go.

He still would have to burn it, because that’s the rule — but he would hide at least one word in his fist, on the small clutch of paper.

Maybe “Zuzu”. Or “tea”. Or “annoying”. Or “miss you”.

It doesn’t matter — it would still be something that was in Azula’s hand, leaving, breathing Azula with her hot burning hands and sharp eyes — the picture of her is so real and alive before his eyes, but he squeezes them shut.

-maizulee au in which zuko and Mai are exes so Mai throws papers at his window to annoy him in the middle of the night bc it was a Bad Breakup but she accidentally gets Azula’s window while she’s having a sleepover with ty Lee. Tyzula is established and Mai hangs out with them to bother zuko, but then oh??? She genuinely likes them??? Mai and zuko make up eventually and she’s like btw I’m now in love with your sister and Zuko’s like,,,oh?

-yuetara ice skating au. Katara’s a hockey player and Yue is a figure skater and they’re both captains of their respective teams and argue about who gets the ice today etc etc. It’s rivals to lovers slow burn yuetara‼ idk where it would go from there,,,I can see it many different ways

-this one is actually a wip so pls don’t steal💀sukka childhood friends to lovers fic where Suki is adopted or fostered and her parents aren’t the greatest, they kind of favor the ‘real‘ children of theirs so sometimes Suki sneaks out her windows to meet up with Sokka. They end up dating in high school and into college but then break up- not sure why yet- and then Suki gets a rebound guy who Sokka HATES. There’s more to it than that but yeah just jealousy, angst, and childhood love :)

-haunting of bly manor yuetara au with the moon spirit as viola, yue as dani (heterochromia yue<3) and katara as Jamie (PLANT GAY KATARA !!!) and Hannah as Suki maybe, and Sokka as Owen (it fits it fits it DOES) anyways I just think this would be so interesting...I’ve always kind of wanted to write something where instead of it took Yue’s life all at once, the moon spirit slowly drew her away in a way similar to viola slowly growing over dani so this idea makes me so excited

-wandavision esque au with Azula as scarlet witch and ty Lee as Vision. Something happens to ty lee and Azula has a breakdown similar to wandas in ep 8(I think) and yeah. I don’t have much for this au lol

-the way I loved you (Taylor swift) au with kataang as ‘perfect relationship’ from the verses and katoph as the ‘screaming and fighting and kissing in the rain’. the way I loved you always has and always will be a comphet- or at least wlw- song to me due to personal experiences so I’d love this tbh

• let’s say things are kinda very different and somehow, it’s Azula who has to fight the general in a Agni Kai, and she’s ready to — but when she sees that it‘s Ozai she has to fight, she doesn’t do it too. Because that’s what she was taught her whole life — Ozai is her one and only superior. And she is scared of him. So she miscalculates and thinks that‘s what expected of her — she bows. And that’s when shit officially goes down.

• and later that night — her last night in the palace, Azula is laying in her room and she has a big burn on her neck, going all the way up to her chin. She can’t sleep because it hurts, and she’s very exhausted, but her mind doesn’t let her. And she is still trying to breathe normally because it hard to with her neck damaged.

(and she’s crying bc she doesnt know where she’ll go and her neck hurts as fuck)

• so that’s the moment when Mai and Ty Lee sneak in? and Azula immediately thinks that someone coming to finish her, because the whole court knows she’s weak — but she can even rise from her bed because of the injury, so she tries to breathe fire. Which is not something you should do with a burned throat. so it hurts even worse, and she feels absolutely helpless, and then sees that it’s Mai and Ty Lee who came to finish her, so she starts straight up hysterically sobbing.

• and then it’s just Mai and Ty Lee trying to explain to her that they did not actually came to kill her? Like very softly.

so they stay with Azula for the night because there actually can be people who can try and use Azula’s injury. So they all are laying in Azula’s bed trying to understand what they are going to do next, because Mai and Ty Lee are insisting on going with her, and Azula has this whole “ you can’t go with me i have nowhere to go” fit, because they all understand it’s impossible to find the Avatar. and it’s all very soft because they are babies and fall asleep all curled up, and Azula keeps crying in her sleep because her neck hurts under the bandages.

• they stay on the ship with Iroh exactly until Azula’s neck heals, and that‘s when they steal some ship from the colonies and leave. the ship still has the team on it and azula has the nerve to announce to them that she bought the ship and that means they are working for her now.

• Azula has a very raspy voice because her vocal chords were severely damaged. • Ty Lee has a little plant collection in their cabin which Mai secretly enjoys a lot taking care of.

• and now because Mai is not suppressed by her parents anymore, she starts drawing a lot

• and they are still babies and very young, but also very in love even though they don’t really realise it? but they are like super close and uh

• and then the avatar awakes.
