Distributing Inhumane
We chose to use Momentum Pictures to distribute our film due to recent films it has distributed, such as The Woman In Black and The Girls Who Played With Fire. These films in particular have a very similar genre to our film and target audience also, meaning the have experience with distributing films similar to Inhumane, and avid fans could monitor Momentum's releases therefore making Inhuman accessible.

Audience Research
We sent out a survey to several of our friends aged between 15-25 to reach our primary audience to see if their opinion of opening sequences from our genre.
Question 1 - What horror movie has your favourite opening sequence?
From the results above we concluded that The Women In Black and The Exorcist were rated the most favourite. We then used this information to help with how we made our opening sequence, we looked at their conventions to help create our baseline, although we did change the conventions slightly.
Question 2 - Do you prefer fast or slow pace with horror movie opening sequences?
Our results show that people mostly like fast paced opening sequences compared to slow, we tried to make our opening sequence within the medium range, it slowly builds up and gets quicker.
Question 3 - How important do you think opening sequences are in horror movies on a scale of one to ten with ten being the most important?
From our results we concluded that the opening sequence is very important within the horror film genre therefore we want to make sure that we make our opening sequence interesting so that people don't lose interest, so are more likely to carry on watching it. We are going to do this by sticking to the Barthes theory of Enigma Code and try to create a puzzle to keep the audience interested.
Question 4 - How much attention do you pay to the titles in the opening sequences?
This question gave us such a large amount of mixed answers, but overall the average gave either a little or a bit attention. Therefor while producing our opening sequence we don't want the titles to be the most dominant thing, we don't want them to distract away from the visuals. We believe that the visuals a more important and want our audience to pay attention to them.
Question 5 - How important do you think opening sequences are to the narrative of horror movies?
This question is very similar to question 3 but is aimed more towards the narrative of the story instead. From these results our target audience think that it is mostly important for the narrative of the story, therefore in our opening sequence we are going to pay close attention to the narrative and we are going to give away a little bit in the opening sequence but not too much that they know everything about it as we want the audience to continue watching, but it’ll be enough for the audience to understand the basic story line throughout the film.
Casting We chose Polly Denny as a group to our actress, as she sticks to the horror conventions as she is fairly plain and basic. Alot of the females within horror films have long dark hair, which was another reason as to why we chose her. The darkness of her hair helps to represnt the darkness with our opening sequence. She fits within the age group that we have aimed our opening sequence to. She has an approachable face, looks nice, so people are able to sympathise with her, despite her being made out to be the villain.
Sound
We found our sound track for our piece on the YouTube creator area. I was quite hard to find a piece that not only matched the genre but also matched the pace. I think the soundtrack we chose works really well with our piece as helps add to the overall effect but doesn't detract from the visual imagery. We used a piece of music called ‘Sea of Doom’, we chose this piece as builds and descends in the correct place, making the piece more tense, which sticks to the conventions of the horror genre.

The Ring Opening Sequence
Very few of the scenes are well lit, most are dimly lit which i think helps to add to the scariness of the clip. The close up of her face at the very beginning helps to make the atmosphere tense, also shows her expression very well. Shes very uncertain as to what is going on, the camera then panning around the corner to a static TV coming into shot then shows us what is making her uneasy. Her movements start of very slow as shes looking around the room checking it for someone or something who could have turned the TV on, the scene quickens when shes shouting up to Becca but slow back down when she sees the TV controls, making it seem like someone else has put them there. Once she turns the TV of and exits, the static noise comes on, she stops and turns around slowly. The fact that her movements are so slow makes the scene more eery and scary for the viewer to watch, we are scared for her

A narrative is not the story or plot, its how its revealed to the audience. There are several different types of narratives
Linear Narrative are simply narratives that follow a cause/effect logic in chronological time.
Non-Linear Narratives work through flashbacks, inter cutting many stories together.
Structuralists break down stories, generalized parts.
Vladimir Propp who developed a structuralist system for fairy tales based on 8 characters and 31 functions. Among these narratives functions were:

Rule Of Thirds Example - Lord Of The Rings
Rule of thirds is to help with the positioning of certain things within a scene. The main character is always located in the middle between the two vertical lines, and if you were to have a landscape scene in the background, say of just ground and sky, that would go across either horizontal lines.
