Since I already did Jekuni, Mahisono it is!

Okay so. Mahisono is one of those ships where it’s like. No matter how platonic you intend to write it, because of the way their relationship is structured, it always reads like a saccharinely sweet teenage romance, complete with handholding, awkward firsts, and happy, slightly self conscious blushes.

This is absolutely due to just… How genuinely sweet both Mahiru and Misono are!! Mahiru is the boy next door and Misono is the sheltered little prince and that dynamic makes their interactions so fun and cute. The clashing of their different worlds is extremely fun to think about, especially in the context of Mahiru introducing a suddenly shy Misono to his normal friends (Mahiru teases him and gets hit with a punch that feels like absolutely nothing) and Mahiru accompanying Misono to business get together a as a plus one (it’s both intimidating and cool to see Misono so in his element, and also he and Lily talk like mean girls it’s hilarious)

Underneath all that sugar and fluff though there’s… A bittersweet understanding, between the two of them. The way they grew up might have been extremely different just from a basic point of view, but their origins? Children born to women out of wedlock, the perceived idea that maybe they are the cause for their mothers coming to ruin, the comfort to be taken in loving each other that doesn’t come with that emotional baggage… Being able to speak frankly of what they do and don’t understand. It’s like they did a speed run of childhood friends to lovers lmao. With their comfort level towards one another? It is VERY easy to mistake them as having known each other for much longer than they do.

Not to mention Misono being raised in a very… Westernized household, I suppose you could say it, plays nicely with Mahiru’s lack of boundaries stemming from how he craves acceptance and affection. If Misono says Mahiru deserves to have a family, that he sees Mahiru as PART of his family, well. Mahiru has no reason not to believe him.

Ooooh, a rarepair? Nice, let’s give the rarepairs some love too! After this whole ship meme fill disappeared on me yesterday, here comes the second try X’D Here you go~!

Who…

Drinks all of the coffee: Usually Misono. He needs that stuff to stay awake past his usual bedtime when he has work or studying to do or just wants to stay up longer, and he consumes absurd amounts of it. At first he used to drink the fancy expensive stuff, but lately he’s been totally addicted to cheap instant “commoners’ coffee” and always drinks way too much of it, resulting in him being unable to sleep all night. Mahiru often scolds him for it.

Brings up adopting a pet: Mahiru. He quickly notices how much Misono relaxes when he’s interacting with someone’s cute pet, and knowing how happy it would make his boyfriend, he suggests to get one for themselves (one that’s not a shapeshifting vampire, anyway). It takes them quite some time to find one Misono isn’t allergic to, but when they finally find a pair of bunnies and Misono doesn’t start sneezing around them, they take them home instantly. At first Mahiru’s worried about them not getting along with Kuro, but to his surprise his Servamp is the first to bond with them.

Kills the bugs: Usually Mahiru. Misono tries and fails miserably, tripping over himself, knocking stuff over and breaking things that probably shouldn’t be broken, so Mahiru has repeatedly told him to just call him whenever he wants to get rid of a bug, and he’ll take care of it and put it outside. Misono’s not too happy with the suggestion because he still doesn’t like having to call for help, so he tries hunting bugs with bug spray, but after the time he accidentally sprayed that stuff into his face he finally gave up and took to calling Mahiru.

Cooks the meals: Mahiru, because he’s the ideal housewife and the only one of the two who knows how to cook at all. Usually Misono’s fine with it because Mahiru’s cooking is delicious and he still has traumatic memories of the time he tried to cook himself, but every once in a while he wants to give his boyfriend something back and asks Lily to help him prepare a meal. The results are usually barely edible but Mahiru loves and praises them anyway.

Starts getting into holidays way before they should: Misono. As soon as the first bits of seasonal decoration appear in shop windows, he wants to know everything about the upcoming holiday and the way people celebrate it and asks Mahiru a million questions, and once the latter has answered them Misono goes out and buys a ton of holiday ornaments and other useless pieces of junk, three months before the actual holiday. Mahiru usually sighs and reprimands him for wasting money, but knowing how natural Misono’s excitement and curiosity is, he can’t really be mad at him.

Initiates the couple selfies: Mahiru, mostly because Misono didn’t even use to know what selfies are in the first place, let alone how to take one. By now he has sort of understood that part, but he still doesn’t quite get how he’s supposed to recognize an appropriate occasion to take a couple selfie (even if he’d like to know), so he has Mahiru do the initiating until he knows the pattern well enough to do it himself.

Forgets the birthdays and anniversaries: Neither. Mahiru is super organized, and Misono has a memory that simply doesn’t forget anything, ever. It does occasionally happen that Misono is busy on an important date though, either because of school or college or because of work, but that rarely happens because he tries to avoid it at all costs and even if it does, he usually spends every free second he has with Mahiru.

Always ends up with too much junk food after grocery shopping: At first, neither; Misono didn’t even know what junk food was, and Mahiru is too much of a fully functional adult to eat much junk food. Then Kuro (accidentally) introduced Misono to the world of potato chips, ice cream, cheap cookies and cup ramen, and Misono somehow wound up totally addicted to that stuff. Mahiru has to constantly remind him not to buy so much of that because it’s the exact opposite of healthy.

Nicknames the other: Neither. Mahiru is a simple guy who’s not overfond of nicknames and would rather call people by their real name, because why else would they have it? (Unless you ask him to call you by a nickname, but Misono doesn’t.) And Misono thinks nicknames are awfully embarrassing… even more embarrassing than calling someone by their first name, including his boyfriend. It took him several months into dating and several reminders and a lot of encouragement to finally stop calling Mahiru “Shirota.”
