Marisa had forgotten how harsh and unforgiving the terrain of Makai was. Though she'd been through here several times--all recent visits, too--they'd not been terribly long, drawn-out affairs, only just the standard beat-or-get-beaten and hightail it to safety to nurse one's wounds until the chance for a rematch came around.
The problem the burgeoning young witch faced was that she couldn't seem to keep up with anyone, and lady Mima was beginning to notice her slip-ups and shortcomings, especially when matched up against that Hakurei shrine maiden. No matter how hard she studied, how little she slept, how much time she devoted to magic, she could not surpass that girl--nor please her teacher, who had only grown angrier and more distant with each failure, and that was more crushing than any defeat.
Then she'd remembered how people supposedly went to train in Makai, strengthened themselves, their magic--everything. Sure, it was also told to be dangerous to one's health, but the benefits were to far outweigh the potential risks.
The entrance to Makai was an easy one, right near the Hakurei shrine, and so the girl had slipped in without notice with relative ease. The atmospheric change was immediate: a weighted feeling had settled into her chest, the air strangely thick, like breathing soup. Had she been too hyped up on adrenaline and nerves to notice all of this before?
There was another noticeable change, this one useful, thankfully: the thrum of energy that felt like it was flowing directly through her veins, an extra power source ready to amp up her seemingly meager magic supply several levels.
"So this is what they were talking about with the power of Makai."
And so she began training the only way she knew how, bursts of bullets and light in all directions, hoping for some sort of grand realizaton to come out of it all. Perhaps she could try something like lady Mima's magic... if she could figure it out.
