â I let my father die because i trusted him. because he was convinced that i had to wait. that the world was not ready. â
It took Clark a great many years to slowly accept his fatherâs death. It shaped a lot of his decisions in the early years. He kept himself hidden, afraid of the same fear his father felt. He most certainly didnât want his death to be in vain and blamed himself every day until he could come to terms with who he was and who his father believed one day he could be.
This also solidified the need to maintain a secret identity. He couldnât bear the thought of losing another person close to him because of who he was. Not being able to save the ones he loved as Clark Kent weighed on him so much, it was easy to become Superman, a hero who could save the ones he loved while keeping Clark preserved for his father.
