The event that formed her rings was the same event responsible for the planets most recent mass extinction event, when a rogue planet from deep space entered the solar system and collided head on with what was at the time her largest and second closest moon, this moon and the rogue planet that hit it were both similar in size to our Earth, the collision caused them both to be annihilated.

This event sent debris flying and all directions, roughly 23% was sent into space, around 41% began to orbit and would became the planets rings, and the final rough 36% rained down upon the planet bringing the apocalypse with it. Some of the debris that hit Magnersus was shot directly at the planet from the celestial collision, causing massive planet wide earth-quacks, huge tidal waves, and mass volcanic activity to begin, other debris that was ejected at a wider angle or more parallel to the planet had a chance to spread further, causing a planet wide meteor shower that caused the planet to burn, the atmosphere to heat up, oceans to boil, and the planet to be engulfed in toxic gases. Some of the debris that was initially flung away from the planet but wasn't able to escape it's gravity eventually came back, causing as second, less server wave of calamity, this event caused the extinction of 94% of all species at the time.
