Carbuncles are medium-sized magical felines native to the jungles of Latin and South America. The first reports of the creatures was by Spanish wixes sailing across the Atlantic Ocean to conquer new lands. The peculiar feature unique to the carbuncle is the gem-like structure that sits in the middle of their foreheads just in front of their brains. Contrary to popular belief, this is not an actual gemstone but rather quite a lot like a pearl, in the vein that mucous produced by the carbuncle builds to create it.Ā
When they are born they have a bare forehead and as they grow, theirĀ āgemā becomes larger and more pronounced. Studies by magizoologists suggests that this gem acts similarly to that of wands in humans. It acts as a channeling agent for carbuncles to perform magic. Observation of specimens in the wild shows that they can perform a number of rudimentary magicks, especially fond of memory charms. They use this as an escape method from larger predators, making their attacker forget momentarily why they are there in the first place.
