Bless this man, his father and the city of Timbuktu:
Pictured here is Abdel Kader Haidara , one of Timbuktu’s leading manuscripts experts and son of a deceased renown local scholar, Mama Haïdara. In front of Haïdara in a glass case is a Qur'an with on the lower part of the image a note indicating that several kings of Morocco owned it. The writing is typically Moroccan, 12th century.
Qur'an Fragment, 12th to 13th centuries, North Africa or Southern Spain
This Qur'an fragment is written in bold maghribi script on parchment and is quite extensively illuminated. The chapter heading is written in a large gold Kufic-Abbasid script and the end of each verse is marked by illuminated roundels.

Manuscript of a Mauritanian Qur’an, Northwest Africa, Mauritania, 18th century
The Dala’il al-Khayrat is a major compilation of prayers and blessings about the Prophet Muhammad. The works were authored by Moroccan Sunni Sufi and Islamic scholar Muhammad al-Jazuli (d. 1465). Among some Sunni religious orders, most notably the Shadhili-Jazuli order, its recitation is a daily practice. In others, however, its recitation is a purely voluntary daily practice. The work begins with the ninety nine names of God, and then a collection of over one hundred names of the Prophet Muhammad.
