A young mage who prefers the company of books and mythical creatures over that of a group of hunched old men with long beards nearly touching the ground and terrible tempers. His mask was broken after being attacked by a magical creature hunter. He was separated from his home and family at a young age by a group of mages who taught him everything they knew. Over time, he grew tired of that life and chose to set out in search of what he felt was missing.

Well, it’s not completely finished, but I’m satisfied with the result. Maetir, my original character, is part of the How to Train Your Dragon and Rise of the Guardians universe.

Well, here’s another drawing of my character as a mage. I tried coloring it, but coloring still doesn’t fully convince me, haha.

I still say he looks like a nun, and that’s despite me trying to draw him as intimidating and mysterious.

As I mentioned before, Maetir is a version of myself within the How to Train Your Dragon universe.

Within the Barbaric Archipelago, Hiccup and the Dragon Riders of Berk would be his main allies. Like Hiccup, Maetir feels a deep respect and fascination for dragons. From the very first time he saw one, he was amazed, since his people lived in harmony with them. To him, dragons were never enemies, but companions and protectors.

Everything changed when Drago arrived on his island demanding loyalty. After the leader his father refused, Maetir’s home was reduced to ashes and the dragons were captured.

When Maetir meets Hiccup, the connection is immediate. They share the same view of the world: dragons are not beasts meant to be dominated, but beings who deserve understanding. Maetir would share the knowledge of his people with him, speaking of predators like the Deathgrippers, of lesser-known species, and of lands beyond the Barbaric Archipelago.

While traveling to those territories would take weeks by ship, the journey becomes considerably shorter on the back of a dragon.

Many people have asked me in private messages whether I’ll continue working on the design of my version in that universe. The answer is yes.

I’ve also been asked if I’ll give him different origin stories—different ways he could have met Hiccup, the Dragon Riders of Berk, and even Jack.

I’ve been thinking about it, and most likely yes. However, I want to stay true to his core story: that he seeks both justice and vengeance for his people, after Drago Bludvist took everything from him and captured the dragons who once lived alongside his tribe.

As for collaborating with a writer so my character could appear in someone else’s fic... well, that question completely caught me off guard, haha. I honestly wouldn’t know how to respond.

Hi, nice to meet you all—my name is Matias. I’m here to answer a few things about my OC, since some people have been asking about him.

To start, “Maetir” is a version of me within the How to Train Your Dragon universe.

He's not official within the fandom and has no romantic relationship with any character in that universe. However, she could be related to certain characters, such as Mala, Queen of the Wing Defenders, as aunt and nephew.

Maetir sought justice for his people, as they all perished when Drago Bludvist came to their home, demanding that they join him. He received a firm “no” from the leader at the time—who was my character’s father. It all ended tragically, with his father’s death and their home being burned down by Drago’s dragons.

He was the only one who survived the great fire, thanks to the dragon who saved him—and who would later become his lifelong friend.
