Such careless response made the heroic spirit wonder: was that because Andersen is a Caster, or was it because he is a writer? Or perhaps it was something inherent to the manās original personality, someone who canāt be bothered to care either way?
ā I wasnāt aware that ābecause magicā was a co-out for a writersā block. āĀ The nameless servant teased, perhaps too harshly. True, some lazy writers use ābecause magicā as an easy way to weasel out from explaining or planning things, often making their lack of talent apparent. But gifted authors like Andersen use magic for what it truly is: a wondrous mystery, something worthy of awe and pure admiration. There is no need to understand magic or give it a reason, at least no more than it is a mystery to a bird why it flies: it is a thing of beauty, a blessing of nature and the fate of the feathered animal that it canāt escape it ā and will die if denied. Archer recognized such beauty in Danish writer, how the magic reflected the true nature of people he wrote about -- but he cared little for inflated egos. Because magic was indeed an appropriate response.
