I refuse to live without warm ripples of blood. Without the casualty of your laughter, spurning a hammock for my fires. What eats at me in the middle of
this percolating gash of a night and strikes, vengeful and hot, across my thighs. Shh, it’s alright. The pain doesn’t have to be a pain if you don’t care to define it.Â
Be disobedient. Be spiteful. You don’t have to bow to the whimsies of sore ligaments, to traces of hunger. Hand me your aches, your proofs of flesh.Â
I will have them cleaned & polished, I will have them enshrined. For angels to scatter like wildflowers. For gods to dismantle and turn your ribs to temples.Â
And I will sleep there besides you, in the places where it hurts the most. You see, I don’t burn anymore. I don’t bleed. Someone spilt the volcano inside of
me and now I molt. Lava pools in my mouth, bristling proposals of deep water death. I become a disconsolate dream. A deformed stranger at the edge of the
woods. Stealing glimpses of you from mazes of stars. You see, this body is a burden. You see, we die some more everyday. Remember the window, with
its spider cracks? Remember how some people swear they putrefied in the womb? Remember how your mother said that the only true consequence ofÂ
time is death? No? Nevermind. It is already forgotten. Words aren’t capable of bloodshed, or are they? Whatever. It’s over. We must dance now. Don’t they
always dance at the end of the story? The prince, leaving the horse. The heroine with luculent eyes, leaving her chambers. A parenthesis of taxidermied rabbits
and fogged up glass. Somewhere we are free to decay. Death upon a flower. Death upon your eyes. Death upon death, rummaged through the moon-
drained cosmos of your wintering heart. The stillness of dawn, how it kind of captures your eyes, in the way that it brims and, in the way that it’s so empty.Â
Faint echoes of your sorrows, capped and bottled between my lungs. The gap in between your molars, the gaps in the time it takes to breathe and the time it
takes not to. Your skin like cracked marble, how your soft light permeates my lips, the corpse, the summer, the routine of maggots. We wilt now, we tremble,
we discipline the rain. These days, I keep living in reverse. My feet bound, my mouth gagged, gangrene in these ghastly willows is how I tell love from danger.
