Yapping under the cut!
Eva Surana: Absolute sweetheart. Not a big talker. Will always try to talk a person down, to mediate, or to find any possible way to get the best and gentlest outcome. That being said, if pushed too hard, the last thing you'll see is her going Avatar Korra on your ass.
Leliana Dragon Age: I wouldn't mess with her, personally... but she's softer than she seems!! An argument between Leliana and Eva is probably explosive.... and probably ends in sex.
Katarina Hawke: She's not one for conflict. She's a mediator. She's going to try and talk. Her bite isn't great, either-- she's too busy trying to clean shit up to bite so hard.
Isabela Dragon Age (no relation): Absolutely can and will cut a bitch. Experience has led her to pick her fights a little more wisely lol.
Madeline Lavellan: More of a shouter than a fighter, Maddie's bark and bite balance each other out. Years as the Inquisitor have made her more willing to deck someone in the face, but she knows she needs to keep it cool. So she'll yell.
One Singular Egg: This is an egg.
Lydia Thorne: Expert shit-talker but she tries to keep a level head. She'll get loud if she needs to (and damn is she much louder than she looks). Like Eva, she's going to try and avoid electric chairing the surrounding area, but if she does? Say goodnight.
Neve Gallus: Have you MET her?? TERRIFYING. Nuff said.
Susanna Mercar: Absolutely more of a shit talker than she is a fighter. She's sensitive!! She can definitely use some fight training. She's going to try and rely on her sick burns before delivering some actual burns (bc she's a fire mage lol).
Bellara Lutare: Listen, Bellara is constantly about a hair away from becoming evil, and tbh as she should be!! 0/10 would keep my distance.
I recently made these ship charts for my blorbos... but I have more blorbos to share!! I thought this would be a good introduction to my HOF, Eva (who, up til now, has only served to haunt Lydia's narrative), my Hawke, Katarina, and my Inquisitor, Madeline :)
Yapping and template under the cut!
I don't have the lore for these ships quite as developed as I do for Lydia and Neve (and even for Susanna and Bellara) so there won't be too much yapping.
Eviana
Eva and Leliana have a little bit of an age gap, with Eva as the younger one.
After Origins, Eva and Leliana saw each other sparingly, though they were devoted to each other. If they'd recently spent some time together, Eva would normally leave Leliana early in the morning, before she woke, because she wouldn't be able to part from her if she were awake. This is something that Leliana took issue with, and Eva has been working on it lol.
Eva and Leliana "have a son" that they coparent with Zevran. He was a foundling in Antiva that Zevran scooped up. His name is Cyril and he's 16 by the time of Veilguard. Eva does not refer to him as her son, but as a friend. Leliana refers to him as their son lol. Cyril is chill, he knows they raised him with love.
Eva serves a divine Leliana faithfully as her knight. Leliana thinks it's hilarious, considering who Eva is.
Eva and Leliana have DISGUSTINGLY adorable nicknames for each other that they aren't shy about expressing in public. This used to terrorize Morrigan and Alistair back in the day.
Katabela
Katarina and Isabela have a non-traditional relationship. Technically they're not together. They don't like to put labels on their relationship.
Katarina and Isabela broke up a few months after the events of DA2. Katarina set her scopes on helping Ferelden. Isabela didn't want to stay in one place. Their break-up was amicable, if a little messy.
Katarina proposed to Isabela, in a way, and Isabela accepted. Technically, they're married, though neither will say it. They claim they're separated.
They just cannot be part of each other's lifestyles??? They're so different. They're so devoted to each other. They see each other once every few years. They spend every moment glued to each other when they're together but can't bear to send letters to each other when they're apart.
Maybe Katarina will finally give in and move to Rivain after the events of Veilguard. In the meantime, though, she, Maddie, and Eva are devoted to the battle in the south. Isabela is deeply worried about her but won't voice it.
Solmaddie
I'm ngl, the more I further I got into this chart, the more I realized that 1) I don't know that much about Maddie and 2) I don't think Solas is the best option for her as a romance lmao.
Maddie is deeply stubborn and, at the beginning of Inquisition, is set in her ways. She wouldn't really see things outside of what she knows/ has experienced until after she and Solas break up.
She becomes more diplomatic. She becomes more open to seeing the other sides of things.
And while she's grateful for what Solas has taught her, and for taking the valaslin from her face, she doesn't pine after him for 10 years.
I was really glad that Rook has the option to dissuade Lavellan from getting back with Solas. I think she cares for him, yes. She doesn't want to see him harmed, but she doesn't want to be with him anymore.
2. What does Rook think of your other protagonists?
Lydia:
Eva- Lydia and Eva have history, though it's short. They're both from Kinloch Hold. During the "Broken Circle" mission in Origins, an 18 year old junior Warden Eva found a five year old Lydia hiding from abominations in a cupboard. Eva led Lydia back to safety and went about her way. This tiny interaction burned into Lydia's memory and became the driving factor behind her eventual decision to join the Grey Wardens. Needless to say, Eva is Lydia's hero.
Katarina- Lydia likes Katarina a lot. She can tell that Katarina has been through a lot in her life and has experienced great loss, and Lydia can relate to it. She'd understand Kat's need for gentleness and patience, and she would be able to give it to her. Honestly, I believe that Lydia is the only person who could get Katarina to come out of her shell and act like her old self.
Madeline- Lydia's got just a lil bit of hero worship going on with Maddie, tbh π. She remembers getting glimpses of Madeline and her companions running around Crestwood when she was a teenager. Otherwise, Lydia has a lot of respect for how Madeline operates, though she's got a HUGE question mark over her head about how Maddie could ever have dated Solas, lmao.
Susanna- Susanna's a big troublemaker, that's for sure. She's also her girlfriend's best friend, which adds a few wrinkles (Susanna has definitely grilled Lydia PLENTY). But, despite all the fucking around, Lydia and Susanna get along swimmingly. Lydia thinks Susanna is solid, funny, and smart. They'd be buddies after a while! Otherwise, she doesn't understand why Susanna gets such a kick out of bothering her!!
Susanna:
Eva- Thinks Eva is absolutely BAD. ASS!!! 18 years old and saving the world from certain doom? Doing it as part of a TEN person team? HOLY. SHIT. THAT IS SO COOL!!! She's a lil disappointed by Eva's stone face being a front, but she does like how easy Eva is to talk to. Does not understand why Lydia looks like she's going to vomit whenever Eva is around.
Katarina- Does not understand how someone who's done such great things in her life could "give up" so horribly as Katarina did. She also doesn't understand hardship in the way that Katarina has experienced it, so there would be some butting heads, there. Lydia would need to explain it to Susanna.
Madeline- Opposite of how she feels about Katarina, Susanna doesn't understand why Maddie just doesn't give up. Who cares! No one is listening to her anyway!! Stop trying to play the big person and start sweeping the leg instead! You can get more shit done if you're not afraid to get your hands dirty a little bit. Madeline... considers this.
Lydia- Her first impression of Lydia was "oh great, a stuffy Circle mage." This impression changes quickly enough, after she learns that Lydia is tough as nails and still finds time to be kind and help others. She can tell that Lydia is running from something, though, and doesn't understand why she won't just face it head on. Also, she's dating Neve? You'd best believe Susanna was all over Lydia for that. She also just likes to bully Lydia in general, lmao. It's fun!
5. If you put all your protagonists in a room together, would they get on?
They would... mostly!
Eva is really just happy to be here. She's kinda trying to relate a bit to Katarina, as a fellow Fereldan who has had a lot taken from her, and who has essentially been ripped from her home and forced into a life she never thought about living. She's neutral about Madeline (though she cracks up when she learns that she dated the Dread Wolf). She's going to pay the most attention to Lydia-- mostly because they're from the same Circle and do know each other to some extent, but also because she's beating Lydia over the head with a newspaper for throwing her life away WILLINGLY. As for Susanna? She LOVES Susanna and wants to get up to as much trouble with her as she can.
The odd one out here would be Katarina, I think. After all that's happened to her, she is very much in a shell. She's not really going to talk, she's not really going to go out of her way to make friends with others. She knows Maddie a little bit... they kinda get along? But Maddie is a bit hot-headed and impatient. The only one who really gets Katarina is Lydia.
Maddie is happy getting to know the other protagonists and is trading stories with them. I can see her getting into some weird competition about who has the craziest story (and when she realizes that all five of them have, at some point, fought dragons, she's going to get into some weird debate about who fought the biggest/most dangerous dragon).
I believe Lydia and Susanna will jel nicely with the other protags, too, though Lydia might find an easier time making actual connections whereas Susanna is having an easier time finding more people to get up to shenanigans with!
8. What would they think about each other's love interests?
Eva:
Eva's hooked up with Isabela and thinks it's nice that she's (mostly) settled with someone. She's still trying to find out how she managed to get swindled at cards. She does NOT like Solas, nor does she like the way he left Maddie. She really enjoys Neve and gives Lydia a not so discreet high five about it-- she also loves to pick Neve's brain about what it's like to be a Northern mage. She gets along the best with Bellara, though! She loves how endlessly curious Bellara is and that she kinda reminds her of herself when she was younger.
Katarina:
Katarina likes Leliana, and they've met before! She thought it was pretty cool that Leli was dating the Hero of Ferelden (an opinion which switched up when Leliana became the divine, then it became "DAMN, THE HERO OF FERELDEN AND THE DIVINE ARE MARRIED?? SICK!"). She thinks Solas is very intelligent and was definitely picking his brain during her time at Skyhold. She thinks it's crazy that Lydia wouldn't get along with him lmao. Katarina is a little hesitant about Neve at first because of what she's heard about Tevinter mages from Solas, but she comes around when she realizes that Neve's biggest offense is not eating vegetables. She gets along with Bellara, too!
Madeline:
LOVES Leliana! They got along swimmingly during their time with the Inquisition. She thinks that Isabela is cool but doesn't understand why she and Katarina are together. She works closely with Neve to reunite Lydia with her parents, so they get along just fine! She's the biggest fan of Bellara-- she lovesss Bel's energy and how handy she is! She's straight trying to get her to collab with Dagna on some wild project.
Lydia:
Lydia thinks that Leliana is really cool, though her being the Divine kinda raises a red flag for her? It has less to do with Leliana and more to do with Lydia's complicated views on the Maker. She lovess Isabela, though!! Getting to know her in Rivain? She had no idea that she was with Katarina!! I think Lydia would've liked Solas more if she wasn't actively fighting him, lmao. Like, a Lydia meeting Solas during Inquisition? They'd get along very well. And she LOVES Bellara. They're both nerds! Every convo is dork to dork communication.
Susanna:
She likes Leliana well enough but would definitely like for her to keep her ravens as far away as possible. She doesn't know HOW Isabela could end up with someone like Katarina?!! Likewise she doesn't know WHY Madeline would not only date someone like Solas, but that she would MISS him?? (forever upset that the default Solasmancing Inquisitor is still in love with him). Neve is Susanna's longterm best friend, so she adores her more than life itself. Will not hesitate to make Lydia disappear if she makes Neve sad.
21. How would each of your protagonists handle the Game? Are they good at navigating politics/diplomacy in general?
Eva: Super poorly. Leliana has been trying to show her the ropes for YEARS, but all her lessons are going in one ear and out the other. Eva believes that learning the game is unnecessary because of who she is, and honestly? Leliana is pissed that thus far, Eva has been right.
Katarina: You wouldn't catch Katarina at anyyy event that involves playing the Game. She hates that type of stuff! And she doesn't like to be in the spotlight. I think she'd be good at it, though. She can keep a straight face, she can lie, and she can manipulate situations well enough.
Madeline: She'd be stellar. Not because she cares about politics, but because she's spiteful as hell. She would love to be underestimated and then come out on top, and leave everyone else shocked for years to come.
Lydia: I actually think she'd be awesome at it? It'd take some training, but Lydia is used to having to keep her cards close to her chest, or have to act a certain way to appease a group of people. She's also amazing at following orders (most of the time lmao). She'd be a model player. Leliana and Josephine would be sooo proud.
Susanna: Honestly? She's stirring shit up on purpose. If Susanna was the Inquisitor, she would've gotten kicked right tf out of the Winter Palace. She grew up in a household where she had to be stuffy and polite and she's SICK OF IT!!!
25. What would be their fears on the Fade graves in Here Lies The Abyss?
Eva: None of your sacrifices mattered.
Katarina: Dying alone.
Madeline: Failed to save anyone.
Lydia: You can never go back-- there's nothing left.
