YOUNG CHRIS AND MADEINTYO DROP "MADE IN PHILLY" ALBUM
Not every lyricist finds the right producer, and not every producer finds the right voice. Young Chris and MadeinTYO found each other, and the result is Made In Philly. The project is out today via MNRK Music Group, alongside the video for “Cuban Cigars,” the album’s closing track and one of its most raw and personal statements. Coming off a steady run of singles that kept the anticipation building, the two now deliver the full picture: nine tracks, all Philly, nothing held back.
“Fine Wine & Steak” and “Let Me Cook” set the tone early, establishing the chemistry and confidence at the center of the project. “Ready for the Summer” and “Alexis Skyy” keep the momentum going, two records that capture a man who has been at this for years and shows no signs of slowing down. “Worldwide Hustlas” pulls the lens back even wider, a reminder that this story goes far beyond one city. “The Source,” featuring Ransom, and “From Nothing,” featuring Lloyd Banks, are tracks where Young Chris trades bars with lyricists who understand exactly what is on the line. “Too Strong,” featuring Freeway, is a reunion of Philadelphia’s finest, a record that makes clear why these names still matter. The album closes on “Cuban Cigars,” a dedication to his grandmother that moves through street realities, loyalty, and survival with the kind of honesty that only comes from living it.
Directed by DevKameraJawn, the official video for “Cuban Cigars” opens on a lit cigar and moves through everything attached to it. Shot between the cold streets of Philadelphia, his grandmother’s home, and the cemetery where she rests, the visual is a quiet tribute built around the woman the record opens by naming. He lights it, walks the block, and lets the song speak. Standing firm in everything he has built and everyone he has lost.
“Me and TYO made something that could only come from where I’m from. Everything I've been through, everything I survived, that’s what ‘Made In Philly’ means.” — Young Chris
Made In Philly is the sound of two artists operating at full strength. Young Chris brings the bars and the story, built out of North Philadelphia and sharpened over two decades in the game. MadeinTYO handles every beat on the project, and if his track record means anything, double-platinum records, over a billion streams, and a production style that has shaped the sound of a generation, then the music was in good hands from the start. Together, they make it sound effortless.
Young Chris arrives at this moment locked in. Fresh off a press run through Los Angeles and New York that included viral freestyles and key media appearances, he has reminded the culture exactly who he is and has them paying attention again. With Made In Philly dropping the day before JAY-Z and The Roots headline the Roots Picnic in Philadelphia on May 30, the timing says everything. This is his city. This is his moment.

Last week, B Dot posted this clip on Twitter from his interview with Ransom about working with MadeinTYO. A duo you'd never thought would work together, let alone do an EP. As Ransom was surprised at MadeinTYO lacing him with some fire beats, I'm just as surprised at Ransom flexing his vocals I didn't know he had on the hook of this song. He also have this J. Arrr dude on the last verse sounding like a young Kendrick Lamar.
Another thing I saw on Twitter last week is this old clip of Tyler, the Creator sharing his Top 5 favorite Jay-Z songs ever. Fuck All Nite was first on his list. I had to refresh my memory, and it make sense why he picked that song. One of many Hov & Pharrell collabs, and this might be a sleeper of theirs.
