Authentication Process- Each comic book is methodically examined and reviewed by CSA Authenticators. CSA Comics uses advanced technology to protect your autographed comic books from any foul play. To combat counterfeiting, CSA employs the highest levels of processing, system examining and authenticating in the comic book industry.

STEP 1: INK/MEDIA USED- Does the ink or media used for the signature and/or writing match the time period? Did the artist/creator sign in ball point pen, black marker, silver marker, pencil, white gel, etc…

STEP 2: CONSTISTENCIES- Did the artist/ creator sign on the cover, inside page, at a slant, at the top, bottom, etc… Most artists sign in a consistent area and use a consistent media.

STEP 3: SIDE BY SIDE AUTOGRAPH STRUCTURE ANALYSIS- The Authenticator closely examines every component and letter of an autograph paying close attention to characteristics of signature flow, direction, style, spontaneity, letter angle, spacing, etc…

STEP 4: CHARACTERISTIC SIGNATURE MAPPING (CSM)- Once an autographed comic book passes the first three steps, it is reviewed by a second authenticator who will convert the signature into a Characteristic Signature Map (CSM). This CSA is then compared to the CSM’s of genuine signatures from the CSA Signature Database. This technique was developed by CSA and is used in both the side by side comparison of signatures and in authenticating the actual signature in question.
