Light shining on macodes petola. Probably to be avoided since it doesn’t like direct sunlight, but it sure does look nice.

Macodes lowii is a type of jewel orchid, grown mostly for the foliage rather than the flowers. Like other jewel orchids, it has metallic veining on the leaves, but has some subtle color variation less prominent in other jewels. The flowers are understated, but cute, and really look luminous in UVIVF lighting.

Macodes petola, the Jewel Orchid This is Macodes petola, an terrestrial orchid from South-east Asia. It is known for it's intricate, lighting-like veination, but under the right light it shows a snow-like glitter in younger leaves. Unlike most common orchids, which are all epiphytes naturaly growing on trees and surfaces, this one grows on the forest floor and is cultivated in a unusually humus-rich substrate. It requires a high humidity to grow, but doesn't need a to be kept below room temperature in the winter and is tolerant of low-light conditions; so it is not particular difficult to grow.

Today I went to a DIY store and I did the mistake to go to check the gardening area. Again. Which means: I got strange plants for a cheap price. Found a Paphiopedilum Maudiae Femma and some neat jewel orchids (in horrid, HORRID conditions. Dry like the pyramids, with yellow leaves, in some of the oldest sphagnum moss I've ever seen...They were there since the last time I went to this shop and today I took them out of pity...Pretty sure I've seen things moving in the pots as well.) that I've placed in an empty yogurt glass jar with another jewel orchid I purchased the last time. Like a sort of an open terrarium...Kinda. Repotted and treated everything for parasites, coz I'm pretty sure I've seen little things moving in the substrate and around the roots. Now let's see if I can make em thrive...

I did done it! :D I wanted try making some small terrariums in glass jars and I did it! It's my first attempt. Hopefully it will work! (There's also a third one, but I gave it to my sister...) Also, the last pic is the dang vanilla sprout they gave me as a gift, since they effed up my order. I dunno how to grow Vanilla, but I can try, I guess...I’ll make my own extract!

First is 2020 in June, second is today 2022 November. I did cut him when he had false spider mites as I was thinking he wouldn’t make it but he did, and so did the cutting (the one on the right) so yay!
