So I finished reading Mockingjay
*SPOILERS for the hunger games trilogy ahead*
It took me long enough, but I finally read and finished the hunger games trilogy. I was kind of dreading reading it to be honest, casually interested, but hearing the emotional wreck the ending left others in didn’t make me eager to get attached to everyone to see them die.
Everyone seems upset about the ending. I can see why. But one thing about it makes me really happy, and that’s that she ended up with Peeta. Their scenes of romance when she was returning the feelings really moved me, I admit I kind of rushed through the books just wanting to see who she would end up with, if either gale or peeta even survived the brutal ending.
The deaths were excruciating as I had thought they would be, I’m glad I didn’t look up spoilers. I’m just going to pretend Finnick is alive and well, being a flirt somewhere. Also, I really wish we had gotten to hear about his stories he shared for the propos.
And the fact that Prim had to be killed is heart wrenching. whyyyy?! The whole series happened because katniss wanted to save her sister. and she ended up dying anyway.
Some people are upset that she didn’t go with gale, I can understand this. I wonder about the manner of their communications in times of the epilogue, if they speak or see each other at all.
Despite everything, I am just very happy to see katniss and peeta together in the end. It was just what I wanted to happen. so what is their ship called, so I can look it up.. :D
I had seen the first movie before reading the books, so I knew how it would turn out. But I believe catching fire is out and I still haven’t seen that. I’m going to try to watch them both soon.
Peeta and I grow back together. There are still moments when he clutches the back of a chair and hangs on until the flashback are over. I wake screaming from nightmares of mutts and lost children. But his arms are there to comfort me. And eventually his lips. On the night I feel that thing again, the hunger that overtook me on the beach, I know this would have happened anyway. That what I need to survive is not Gale's fire, kindled with rage and hatred. I have plenty of fire myself. What I need is the dandelion in the spring. The bright yellow that means rebirth instead of destruction. The promise that life can go on, no matter how bad our losses. That it can be good again. And only Peeta can give me that. So after, when he whispers, "You love me. Real or nor real?" I tell him, "Real".
