Adventures of Sonic The Hedgehog - Machopper (Screenshots & Review)
The episode begins with Scratch and Grounder having successfully kidnapped a fellow named "Machopper", whom is a friend of Sonic and Tails, and also a goofy Australian stereotype.
Meanwhile, Sonic and Tails are out in a thunderstorm, and poor Tails almost gets hit by lighting, but Sonic saves him just in time. Sonic has already gotten word of Machopper being kidnapped, so they set out to go find him. Before they can get to Robotnik’s fortress, but he's been brainwashed into obeying Robotnik via some mind control helmet he was forced to wear earlier. It seems implied to have put some sort of mechanical component into his head, so this is kinda like a "soft robotociization", in a way?
Tails looks so offended when Mac takes the coin he found!
Unfortunately for Machopper, it doesn't seem to have worked really well and messed him mentally quite a bit. He keeps suffering from memory loss, switching between being moderately cognizanct ,complete confused and lost, and strictly obeying Robotnik’s orders. Sonic and Tails are concerned about what's wrong with his mind , but they still follow along with him as he launches them on a giant trebuchet towards a chili dog shop far away.
After the three of them crash into the chili dog restaurant (which thankfully seems deserted, so nobody else got hurt), Machopper gets excited and jumps right into a big bowl of chili. Sonic notices that eating this chili helped him become more alert and in control of himself for a brief time, so he and Tails get a big feeding syringe and fill it with chili. Before they can feed any more to him, though, he goes hostile again and ties up Sonic as Scratch and Grounder arrive to pick them up. Tails manages to feed more chili to mac, helping him fight back and escape with the heroes. They hop into a boat on what appears to be a river rapid of orange soda, and the badniks give chase in a funky looking pink vehicle.
The chase and fighting goes on for quite a while, but eventually our heroes manage to lose the badniks and make their way to Robotnik’s fortress. When they finally do, Mac goes hostile again and cuffs them, leading them to Robotnik’s chamber. Sonic requests a last meal for him and Tails before Robotnik kills him, which is....chili dogs! Surprisingly, Robotnik allows this. Once they're left alone in the kitchen with Mac, Sonic and Tails quickly feed the two chili dogs to mac so he can get his mind back for a little while again. They use this time to trick Robotnik into letting them build a big magnetizing device, which wreaks all sorts of havoc in the area, even pulling of Robotnik’s belt buckle! (which gives us a good look as to just how Robotnik’s outfit works, I have wondered many times if it was multiple parts or just one big jumpsuit). The episode ends as the magnetic field ends up pulling scratch and Grounders somehow repaired and also now flying (?!?!) pink vehicle right into Robotnik's fortress, causing quite the crash!
Did you really have to shoot a plunger onto Tails’ butt, Grounder?
So that’s how Robotnik’s outfit works!
In the Sonic Says segment, Sonic, Tails and Mac are enjoying a raft ride on river rapids, which doesn't sound very relaxing but I guess Mac is just a very good boat pilot. Tails decides to go for a swim and almost gets swept away in the rapids, but Sonic is able to save him. Sonic reminds him to be safer when looking for a place to swim, and watch out for dangerous water currents.
“You look wet and sad little buddy. What happened to your life?”
This episode wasn't really my cup of tea, mainly due to Machopper himself. He's little more than a slew of Australian cliches and I don't care for his design or generic personality. He's not as funny and endearing as say, Professor Von Schlemmer, or as comically violent as Momma Robotnik. The fact that his personalty is constantly switching around also means he that with this being the only episode he's in, he doesn't get to have a chance at growth or change as a character. The best I can say about this one is that at-least I still got some good screenshots from it, and The Sonic Says is way better than that last one I watched, presenting very good safety advice for swimmers.
Til next time, stay cool and be safe! I'm gonna go eat spaghetti with my wife, because it's our anniversary today. :D
