You ask that people who want to reach out to you after what you said engage you only in good faith, but were you doing that yourself when you reflexively leapt to the defense of the United States armed forces at a time like this? You can imagine, I hope, why the timing might strike a lot of people as tone deaf? I don't think you meant to be hurtful, but surely you can understand, given yesterday's events, why people who aren't from here might not want to hear it.
I'm not defending the United States anything. What I'm defending is human beings who are going to be shipped out to slaughter and be slaughtered. That's *both* sides. But you don't understand that in America, a lot of people's only real option in life is to either join the military or immediately become homeless and die on the streets after turning 18. Our jobs aren't enough to support people anymore. So, a lot of our troops sign up out of desperation and are victims of our government as well. Not to mention, those who've had to resort to that were just as surprised as everyone else on the planet yesterday when Donald Trump just announced that sent those bombs without any approval or warning from anyone. No one knew this would happen and no one wanted this to happen
I hate the United States government and military just as much as anyone else for what happened yesterday, and when I was crying my eyes out yesterday, I was doing so for *all* of us. Nobody wanted this except for the rich and powerful who stood to gain from it. I have so much sympathy for you and your people. Genuinely, there's nothing I can say that can express how fucking ashamed I am to be an American today. But I also just have to have sympathy for our people who are feeling that same shame, and for my uncle who has been struggling with what's been happening for a while already and I'm not sorry for defending him and people like him.
