I hate how easily this came to me for the LT, anyway! This is for "Staring at each other’s lips for a moment before moving closer, as if drawn together by some unseen force," from this kissing prompt. Hope you enjoy!

In Ant’s defense, he genuinely hadn’t meant for this to happen.

A late night stakeout because of a potentially roaming supernatural should have been easy this time around–the supernatural just seemed to be passing through the area, spooking the locals without being an actual threat, and it had seemed logical enough to Ant that as the town’s detective he would keep eyes on it until it left Wayhaven. He would keep his distance, monitor the thing, and make sure it eventually left without anyone discovering it or being hurt.

A step up from the man who had initially taken the job because nothing ever seemed to happen in Wayhaven. He was trying not to think about it.

He’d even meant to do the stakeout alone; the supernatural was a low threat, and Unit Bravo had been run ragged recently with all of the back to back incidents in town. Ant had thought he’d do the nice thing for once, take something on himself and give Unit Bravo the break they clearly needed. Maybe they were immortal vampires with super strength and speed and heightened stamina, but even they had started to look worn down in recent days.

As the saying said, though. The best laid plans of mice and men.

“Not that I don’t appreciate the fact you can’t stay away from me,” Ant sighed as he lowered his binoculars, “but I really wasn’t kidding when I said I could handle tonight myself.”

“You know my orders.” Adam didn’t shift to look at him, but Ant could feel the blonde’s eyes on him all the same; he refused to be the one to look first. He’d tried to be good for once dammit, he hadn’t meant for this to happen. He’d taken specific steps to try and avoid it, even.

“You know I’m a grown man with an adult job.”

Adam huffed beside him, though from the sound alone Ant couldn’t tell if it was a muffled sound of annoyance or an attempt to stifle a chuckle. It was always a fifty fifty chance, with Adam, and he didn’t dare look to confirm it. It was bad enough the other man already insisted on standing so close to him.

Yes, Ant could have stepped away.

Yes, he was ignoring that right now. It was easier to blame this situation on Adam.

“If you didn’t want me here, you could have taken Nate,” Adam said, and the words were far softer than they had any right to be. “He volunteered to join you before I did.”

The mention of Nate made Ant’s chest twist uncomfortably; a common reaction these days, that weird mix of pain and pleasure. He lifted his binoculars to his eyes again instead, to buy himself some time as he tried to bury the sensation. “This supernatural hasn’t been a threat to anyone. I could handle it myself. I wanted to do you guys a favor.”

Adam sighed beside him, now. “You know we can’t leave you alone, even if…” He paused, and Ant shifted slightly to peek at him out of the corner of his eye. Now the team leader was the one looking away from him, as if struggling to find the words. “Even if I appreciate the sentiment,” he finished.

Ant chuckled. “You don’t have to sound so strained saying it.”

The vampire huffed again, and this time it was definitely annoyed; Ant had to swallow the urge to laugh again. “I’m not strained.”

“Not used to complimenting someone for trying to be nice, I take it?”

“I gave you that compliment with no issues, detective.”

“There was a pause. A pretty decent one. Just saying.”

Ant was still watching the supernatural as he spoke, absently shifting his binoculars more comfortably on his neck, but he felt when Adam looked at him now; felt the subtle thrill that always ran over his skin when those green eyes found his, or followed his form in general. He hadn’t expected Adam to be the one to look first, and it had him taking a moment to inhale deeply.

Dammit. Dammit, dammit, dammit.

Adam didn’t say anything for a moment; there was no request for Ant to look at him, no plea, no demand. He was simply content with watching Ant watch the town, and somehow that just made Ant even more on edge than if their eyes met in this moment. Finally, after what seemed like both an eternity and a second, the blonde chuckled.

Adam had a wonderful laugh. It was unfair that it was just one other thing the detective was rapidly learning he maybe loved about the man.

“I just like to consider my words with you, detective.”

The words were soft again–too soft, almost bordering on tender, and Ant finally stopped fiddling with his binoculars, finally gave in to the inevitable. He hadn’t meant for this to happen, but here they both were. Maybe this was just how it was always going to be with them.

He shifted and turned his head, meeting Adam’s gaze, and he couldn’t help the smile even if he tried. “What, afraid you’ll break my heart the way you broke my desk?”

It was light, teasing, but it came out wrong–just as soft as Adam before, a little husky. The words immediately made Adam’s eyes drop to his lips, and Ant swallowed at the movement.

He should have pulled away now. He knew that. Should have taken a step back, created some distance between them, because Adam was already way too close and now he seemed even closer, since the moment their eyes had met. If he couldn’t do it, he should have said something; he was certain a single sound from him would have made Adam back off immediately, given his track record.

Ant didn’t say something. He didn’t pull away.

They were so close now.

They were so–

Nate flashed through Ant’s mind then, suddenly, painfully; the baffled look on his face when Ant had gently but firmly turned down his offer to patrol with him, the way his brown eyes had dimmed. Ant couldn’t say if it was the same thought for Adam, but from the pained look that crossed the other man’s face he had the sneaking suspicion that for once they were on the same page.

They were so close.

Adam took a shaking breath, then pulled away, turning to focus his gaze once more on the town. Ant let him, taking a moment to close his eyes and compose himself before he opened them and picked up his binoculars again.

A/N: @monochromeweek Apparently, monochrome week is what can get me writing fics again. By the time this gets posted and shared, it’ll be late, and that’s probably gonna be the situation for the rest of the week. I hope you all enjoy!

Weiss woke with a start, blinking blearily before quickly scanning her surroundings. The room was filled with various trinkets, and it was evident that the owner had the wealth or at least the capability to obtain such opulence. This led Weiss to her next realization, one that made her more alert: the sight of wealth might have been something she was used to, but this was clearly not her ship. A second inspection of the room allowed her to conclude that these were a captain’s quarters, and she grimaced at the implications of how she landed herself in this situation before attempting to stand.

Can you believe we almost got healthy gay Romeo and Juliet modern adaptation? Damn

It would have been so cool. But no, they went with a Disney movie instead.

(going on a rant about how the bmblb romance was handled so skip if you don't want to see it)

I don’t even see anything leading to romance for Blake and Yang. They went with Beauty and the Beast but honestly, WEISS would have been a better choice for that allusion. Or am I the only one remembering that Belle and the Beast started on more than rocky terms because the Beast was a literal asshole, then he learned to be a better person out of his love and affection for Belle ? Aka Weiss' character arc since V1C15, learning that Blake is a Faunus and deciding that she doesn't care what Blake is, they're friends and Weiss will stop being racist because obviously she was in the wrong there and she goes so far as to become Blake's best ally on the team, as shown in V6 and V7. 

(on that note, I think it would make sense for Blake's girlfriend to care a little about Faunus issues, but Yang's last intervention on that matter goes ALL THE WAY BACK to V1. I don't know girl, maybe say something about people being racist to your crush ? Confront them ? Why were Weiss and Ruby the only ones to react to the racist assholes the two times that Blake was targeted for being a Faunus ?) 

I’m salty over how the bmblb thing was handled. They don’t have anything in common and their only character arc together was in big part due to Adam and how he hurt them. Even Blake coming back to her team and not running anymore was more about her overcoming Adam’s abuse and how it shaped her than her relationship with Yang. Like, I’m sure they could be cute if given the right development, but as a couple ? As friends ? They got little to none until the whole mess that was the Fall of Beacon and its aftermath.

Like, if we want to compare with other pairs for Blake and Yang : 

- Ruby and Blake have a love for books in common, they could have bonded over that if given the chance, and Ruby being the kind and innocent person she is, I’m sure she would have wanted to help Blake with Faunus issues like racism and the WF. She actually does that in the series, but there’s less emphasis on this because Ruby and Blake are never shown alone together or being close friends. 

- Weiss and Blake had their Faunus racism arc over the span of SIX FUCKING VOLUMES and a little in the 7th volume too despite them only exchanging like 20 words in the volume so far, multiple scenes accross the series of each of them looking out for the other, the obvious Romeo and Juliet vibe, the growth of their friendship (especially present in V2 and 3 but we also see tidbits in V5, 6 and 7) and all the cool ways CRWBY could have used (and maybe will still use) their relationship to expand on racism in Remnant and both of them working together to make things better. 

- Weiss and Yang always had funny interactions, jokes and teasing which made for a pretty interesting dynamic in the first 3 volumes already , and of course their emotional talks in V5 (plus the hug with Home playing in the background).

But what does bmblb have ? One talk about Yang's past, a wink, two seconds of dance, one talk where Blake doubts Yang in the Vytal Festival then decides to fully trust her again 5 seconds later despite her making parallels between Yang and Adam... and that's it. Not even any remotely funny or interesting interaction out of what I just mentioned, they apparently didn’t tease each other like Yang did with Weiss, they weren’t shown to really grow closer like Weiss and Ruby did through the first 3 volumes... they were pretty static.

What do they see in each other ? Why do they love each other ? If CRWBY dropped Romeo and Juliet for a ship where you don't even know what they love about each other aside from their looks, I say it's a loss.
