Light Blindness (Ex) Abrupt exposure to light (such as sunlight or a daylight spell) blinds noxiyas for 1 round. On subsequent rounds, they are dazzled as long as they remain in the affected area. Ray of Pure Dark (Su) Once per round, a noxiya can fire a ray of darkness that deals 3d6 points of negative energy damage. The ray is invisible if fired in darkness, meaning creatures targeted in such areas lose their Dexterity bonus to their Armour Class against the attack. Bestow Darkvision (Su) Five times per day, a noxiya can grant a creature darkvision or extend the range of its existing darkvision. A chosen creature gains darkvision 60ft. or has its darkvision range increased by 60ft, and ability remains for 1 hour per Hit Dice of the noxiya. Sanctuary (Sp) Noxiyas are constantly under the effect of a sanctuary spell. If the ability is negated or the conditions broken, the noxiya can re-raise the effect as a standard action. A noxiya can 'recast' the spell effect as a standard action, forcing new saving throws. The save DC is Charisma-based. Noxiyas are one of the few races of good outsiders from the plane of Mabar. Though timid and wary of the other creatures of the Endless Night, they strive to aid those that lose themselves in the eternal darkness. Strategies and Tactics Noxiyas shy away from physical combat, and never attack first unless provoked. In combat, noxiyas stay as far away as possible from their enemies, using their dimension door ability to keep their distance. Noxiyas will use their shadow conjuration ability if overwhelmed or surrounded, but will otherwise try to escape if the fight turns sour. Sample Encounters Noxiyas are solitary, timid creatures, and so rarely come together in large groups. Noxiyas may be found with other creatures, however, if they are leading a group through the darkness. Missing Children (EL 5): A noxiya leads a trio of rangers (human ranger 3) affiliated with the Children of Winter, who unwittingly wandered onto Mabar via the Gloaming. Ecology Noxiyas are born from the very essence of Mabar, but unlike many of the plane’s inhabitants live to protect rather than to terrorise. As the embodiments of hope where all is lost, noxiyas seek nothing more than to aid those that come their way. Noxiyas rarely meet with their own kind, instead keeping to their own territories, with which they strive to become familiar enough to guide travellers to any point in their lands. Although their territories are vast, sometimes travellers need to journey beyond the borders, in which case a noxiya will not hesitate to travel into another’s lands if necessary. Although it is considered impolite to venture into another’s lands without permission, such an action does not earn a hostile reaction. The only time noxiyas come together is during the Night of Seven Shadows, when the Mabran shadows invade Eberron to spread terror throughout the major cities of Khorvaire. The noxiyas cluster at the points when the planar boundaries are weak, attacking the shadows that attempt to cross through. Environment: Noxiyas are found on the plane of Mabar, and occasionally in its manifest zones. From time to time, noxiyas make their homes in the darkest depths of Khyber. Physical Description: Noxiyas stand 5 to 6 feet tall, and weigh roughly 110 pounds. Alignment: Noxiyas are always Neutral Good, striving to protect the weak without any expectation of reward. Typical Treasure Noxiyas have standard treasure for their Challenge Rating (about 900gp), usually consisting of jewellery with dark stones such as obsidian or sapphire. Noxiya Lore Characters with ranks in Knowledge (the planes) can learn more about noxiyas. When a character makes a successful skill check, the following is revealed, including the information from lower DCs. Knowledge (The Planes) DC - Result 13 - This creature is a Noxiya, an outsider native to Mabar dedicated to helping the lost find their way. This result reveals all outsider traits. 18 – Noxiyas can protect themselves from physical damage, requiring evil, cold iron weapons to penetrate their defenses. 24 – Noxiyas have the ability to grant others darkvision, though their own vision is extremely poor in daylight.
