#tbt 📷📸@dswt ・・・ Meet Maarifa! This lovely little (and we really mean little — see photo two for perspective) white rhino is the latest addition to our Nursery family. When she was just days old, she became trapped in a muddy pool, and her mother was unable to extract her. Fortunately, KWS rangers encountered the pair and, seeing the hopeless situation, intervened to save the baby. With her free at last, the team then focused on reuniting the little calf with her mum, but despite repeated efforts, the mum did not return for her. Maarifa was getting weaker by the minute and in dire need of nourishment, so the KWS decided to fly her to our Nairobi Nursery where she, like so many orphaned rhinos before her, could get the care she so desperately needed. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Maarifa has more than settled in at the Nursery; she runs the place! She is extremely playful, and is happiest when barreling around the Keepers or chasing warthogs. While the perfect outcome would have been reuniting her with her mum, we are so happy to give her a future — and so grateful to all those involved in saving her life.
