-People act like Liam's one-sided mean to everyone in the Nomad...Vetra and Liam simply don't get along, Drack and Cora are straight up antagonistic to Liam at points. -People paint him as incompetent when even Vetra says his work with the outposts is better than the Initiative protocols. -He's a human, so he's automatically considered boring. Yet he's also SO boring that there are posts every other day on Reddit re: Verand and they're just SO ANGRY they didn't get a chance to kill him over it.
-Going back to banter, people like he’s a bully based mostly on his banter with Vetra. The whole thing is basically Vetra telling Liam he’s not responsible in battles; he tells her she’s the irresponsible one since she brought Sid to Andromeda. They go back and forth and then Liam tells Vetra he was putting his own fears on her but she shuts him down and calls him an asshole. Eventually he’ll tell her she does good work, she says the same, and they agree they’ll never get along. Mutually
Sorry for the paragraphs! I just feel like Liam’s getting a disproportionate amount of hate especially with how many people are like “Liam was mean to my waifu Vetra, kill him off!!!” on Reddit. I hope in DLC/future games they take the “Garrus approach” - adding layers to his character to deal with some of the issues - but I worry they’re going to instead take the “Jacob approach” and essentially write him out, which would be a shame because I think there was a lot of good to Liam’s character.
Thank you for clarifying! Any time a character is “problematic” in any way there is always a part of the fandom that calls for their head. “I don’t like this behavior so kill them off cause I don’t want to deal with the conflict they bring to the story” or “they are an enemy of my fav so kill them because I love my character more”
Apparently, the only resolution to a character that doesn’t align with us is to murder them.
I personally adore Liam and think there is plenty there to grab hold of. More so, even, if you romanced him. I also adore Vetra. And their conflict brings depth to a story that I honestly find to be lacking depth on the character side. I remember them talking about it being difficult to make everyone happy in a single playthrough or multiple playthroughs being necessary to “See everything”. That isn’t the case at all. One playthrough and the only parts you miss are the romances, which are a bit lacking, and a full playthrough isn’t worth it just to see a few half-ass scenes. They made sure to vary the romances but if you don’t like the story arc then why bother? I don’t have any interest in romancing Vetra. I enjoy romancing Liam, but the short lacking scenes you get with him are not worth a long ass playthrough where NOTHING changes.
I am getting sidetracked.
I am not surprised that’s what they are upset about. Liam was screwed over when he was placed in the “generic guy” category that always gets included in every story.
