For my mutuals from other fandoms who might not necessarily be familiar with Doug (he's a pretty obscure character), he's a mutant with the power to comprehend and speak all languages.
He was introduced in the 80s to the then-teenage spin-off team the New Mutants. According to the writers everyone hated him because his power was so lame and he couldn't fight and they killed him off the instant his original writer left the book. (He came back to life in like 2009 though so it's ok?) He has an alien boyfriend he fuses with, a large warrior wife, and is bffs with the living mutant island the mutants have made their home on lately.
(he's not a teenager anymore btw, due to the sliding timeline the new mutants are like... millenials, more or less?)
He's a very good boy. Super smart and intuitive. Communication is his superpower. He's also a dorky wimp who can't fight despite being an active member of a superhero team and attracts bullies like flies. (But watch out because he's the most endearingly nonthreatening man ever so all his tougher friends defend him.)
