in all my years in politics, a minefield of grudges, intrigues and plots, I have learned that both my colleagues and predecessors have intentions that are neither aimed at the good of the people nor serve a higher purpose than their own advantage.

I quickly learned that a handshake and a smile followed by a photo need not be a sign of good relations. And certainly not a sign that the negotiations went well.

I have real trust in the ministry with only one man. You could say that we have a friendship - but it is mostly limited to occasional jibes and well-meaning sarcastic comments that are only so accurate because we know everything about each other. To this man I would like to express my gratitude for his loyalty and indispensable fight for the good on my side!

With more power and more money came more people who wanted to take advantage of me. I admit that some have succeeded. I have always been a suspicious person, but these experiences have actually made me colder.

At this point I would like to express not only a thank you, but also an apology. To a woman who has supported me for most of my life and yet whom I have always questioned. I thank her for her perseverance, patience, intelligent advice and especially for the heated and loud arguments that convinced me (albeit often much too late) of the opposite.

And the most important thing at the end:

Essenza inquieta e viziosa.
