Shay straightened and beamed at her daughter. “Now what do you say we go make some cookies? I’ve even got Wonder Woman cookie cutters to go with your new do. What do you say?” As Tess whooped and ran for the kitchen, Shay glanced up at her wife bemusedly.  “Is the paint at least non-toxic face paint? Cause I don’t think paint thinner would be a good option for her face, it’s not the best for ones complexion.”

The mission from the day before had taken a lot out of Shay, she got home too late to tuck Tess into bed, she’d barely gave a hello kiss to her wife before heading to their bedroom and plopping into bed to fall fast asleep. Root had been kind enough to let Shay sleep in but apparently Tess had other plans. Luckily at the kiss on her nose, Shay woke peacefully instead of waking up with a start and accidentally shooting her daughter across the room. She blinked and smiled at Tess, fighting to keep exhaustion out of her voice. “Hey angel. Did Mommy sleep in too long for you?” She sat up slowly and swept Tess up in her arms with a hug and a kiss on her cheek. “Let’s go see what Mama’s up to”

Shay grinned at her daughter “Thank you angel.” Carefully, she took the box and opened it. Her jaw dropped as she saw the mug. She didn’t think that something like this would hit her quite as hard as it did. It was simple and terribly sweet. But it meant the world to her. Shay wasn’t always entirely sure how she got here with Root, nor could she have ever thought that the person she would settle down and have a child with was Root. But here was proof of it. Not the mug, but who was giving the mug to her. Shay carefully set aside the mug, it would definitely become one of her favorites, and looked over at her daughter. After a moment, she pulled her into a tight hug. “Thank you Tess. I love it. And both of your mommies love you very much too.”

Shay laughed and swooped Tess and the plushies up, planting a kiss on her daughter’s forehead. “They are just like us! They’re perfect and very cute. I’m sure Mama would agree” Shay kissed both of the plushies too for good measure and chuckled. “I bet in a few years though, you’ll be the big one and I’ll be the small one.”
