Lycans, lycans, lycans.
The information being thrown her way was impossibly too much to truly comprehend. She kept coming back to Alex, Alexâs paranoia and- no. This is ridiculous, I was told by accident, Alex wouldnât-
A hand slipped around her wrist as she stood there, trying to piece together the bits of information swimming in the space around her. In her brain. It was all a lot, to know another world existed, or more importantly that the one you knew was a fabrication.
Being brought out of her thoughts, she turned to find a hunched over Lena, hand pressed to her stomach as she grunted in pain. Her fangs were visible as she clenched her teeth, and looked up with a visibly angry expression. Her icy blue eyes shone unnaturally in the dark corridor of stone they were in.
âLena!â Kara panicked, dropping to her knees, hands resting on Lenaâs shoulders as Lena dropped to a single knee.
It was hard to watch such a stony-faced nearly impossible to touch- despite the fact Kara was touching her -person be brought down.
Lena didnât say anything for a while, but Kara glanced behind her to see the humanoid figure of a lycan- a goddamn werewolf -lying still in the dirt. Its bloody fur just barely visible through what little light they had. Its claws were spread out, still stuck into the stone beneath its body, and Kara remembered the fight that happened only minutes prior.
Every hit Lena took was on purpose, and eventually, she had pulled the trigger of her weapon in its mouth when it had taken the bait, snarling at her. Lenaâs face was still covered in its blood, and despite the corset- the leather- and jacket she maintained miraculously, the blood glistened and Kara knew it wasnât good.
Lena wasnât normal, but Karaâs brain didnât comprehend that at first. She still bled, though mostly thick dark red, and it set off alarm bells in Karaâs brain. The nurse side of her took over, and she tried to move Lena to sit back against the wall.
Lena, however, went still, and immovable and her gaze snapped back to Kara confused.
âWhat are you doing?â
Karaâs let out a slow breath, âIâm trying to help- youâre bleeding I need to assess the damage. Please.â
Whether by shock, or how gentle Kara sounded, Lena let Kara move her and kept an almost completely impassive expression. Kara moved her carefully, mumbling an apology when Lena, out of reflex, sucked in a breath of air and sat her against the cold stone closest.
Kara pulled a small flashlight out of her pocket and stuck it between her teeth as she pulled off her beige work coat and tossed it aside for a second, pulling up the sleeves to her blue button-up shirt. She clicked the flashlight on and bent as close as she could to assess the wound.
Straight through Lenaâs clothing, her skin was covered by blood, and the three holes in her clothing from the slash the lycan had given her prior, seemed bigger than the wounds were. They were still deep, but not nearly as long or open as the holes seemed.
And then Kara noticed. She blinked at first, uncertain, but the more she watched- the wounds themselves were slowly healing and likely had been since Lena had gotten this wound in particular. They were slowly stitching themselves back together, the skin and muscle weaving back and leaving no indication other than the blood that this had happened at all.
Kara pulled back with a gasp, though didnât exactly move away from Lena, and stared.
And stared.
âDid you not believe me when I told you?â Lena finally broke the silence.
Kara didnât look at her and didnât answer.
âOh Kara,â she whispered, and finally moved to stand up.
Lena struggled, swaying on her feet, and was caught by Kara who gripped her elbows and helped her stand up. Leaving only a few inches between them. Lena didnât seem to notice or care, and if she did she didnât breathe in like Kara did-
But that was it, wasnât it? Lena didnât need to breathe. She didnât need to- she was a-
âVampire.â It came out so softly Kara wasnât sure sheâd even said it at all.
Lena gripped her arms back, took a step forward, mouth opening enough to show her fangs slightly, blue eyes still there. (Kara was preferring their normal green if that was the true color of them.) and looked...almost angry at herself.
âI told you what I was.â And it was true, she had. âAre you afraid?â
Just as instantly as she asked, Kara replied, âNo.â
Lena blinked in surprise and stood there for a second. Just a second, until she let go of Kara and stepped away albeit clumsily. Karaâs hands shot out when she swayed but kept them to herself when Lena found her balance.
Whatever had just happened- it felt like another wall had shifted lower, and Kara wasnât entirely sure how to take it.
âI trust you, Lena,â Kara admitted into the silence.
Lena briefly glanced her way, uncertainty on her face. Kara couldnât blame her. How often had Lena been trusted?
Lena didnât reply, but there was conflict in her expression when she turned to Kara again. Kara didnât comment on it.
âCome on, grab your coat, we need to leave before more come back.â
Kara nodded, bending over to snatch up her coat, and followed Lena out of the odd labyrinth theyâd been in.

PART 2
Music inspiration: [Underdog]
Alex stared at her for a long second, eyes blinking slowly, unimpressed.Â
Karaâs back was turned, blissfully unaware, still doing the dishes. Still singing, and Lena offered a slow smile to Alex before dropping her chin into a hand.Â
âGive up yet?â She tried.
Alex rolled her eyes, turning back to her screen, âNo.â
âShame.â
Alex laughed then, grinning to herself and Lena felt dread for a moment. Alex only grinned when she had a plan, a good one, and- her good plans were always devastating for her opponent.Â
âYou really should pay attention. Arenât you a pro-gamer?â Alex asks.
Lena squinted at her own screen, aiming her gun for a split second to take a precise shot- and three people go down at once. There was a brief moment in which they screamed into their mics at her before they were cut off.
âWhy?â Lena felt suspicion begin to grow.
âBecause-â Alex turned to her, holding a single button, and let her grin grow, â-I win.â
âWhat? My team is ahead by fifteen-â
âOpen map.â Alex retorted snorting.
Lena didnât get a chance to reply or retort. Her character on-screen went down in a blaze of explosions and Lena understood entirely.
Her hubris was her downfall.
The map was open, with sparse buildings, and Alex- well. She saved a score streak. For a fucking gunship, and when she called it in she took control. Alex wasnât precise, but she didnât have to be. She just had to hit close enough.
And Lena scrambled as she respawned and her team seemed to fall one by one. She can never make it far enough, and by the time she decided to rush for the last six kills- Alex targeted her. Killing her over, and over.
By the end of it, Lena is left glaring at her screen.Â
Sheâd had so much fun teasing Alex. She was virtually untouchable with a long-range weapon in hand, but Alex, much like herself- learned quickly. Sheâd started staying back and ignoring Lenaâs jabs about being scared. Sheâd racked up enough kills- and it had worked.
It worked. And Lena had to buy her a new car. Bets.
Fuck.
âSee, Luthor?â Alex laughed. Reaching over to smack her arm, earning a glare from Lena. âPaying attention, it works. Thereâs a reason my tag is acti0nher0.â
Lena huffed, âRematch.â
âNo.â Alex laughed, standing up from her chair. âI know better. You can sit and suffer in your agony, that a normal person, with a normal job, could beat you.â
Lena sunk further into her chair, frowning as Alex moved towards the kitchen. Humming a victory song as she did.
Lena, however, was slowly plotting her murder in the next game.
--
âLena?â Kara asked, waving a hand in front of her girlfriendâs face.
Lenaâs eyes slowly shifted from Karaâs left bicep- and really it was kind of distracting -to her face. She blinked just as slowly and tilted her head just a little.
Kara still had Lenaâs snapback on, with her teamâs logo. It was simple, just a simple diamond with a metallic L running through the middle of it. It was old, so it wasnât impressive, but Kara had wanted it. Lena dropped it onto her head, backward, and smiled when Kara bounced away excitedly.
Lenaâs eyes shifted back to the bare bicep again, and she was aware Alex snorted across the park table at her.Â
It wasnât even- Lena had eyes, of course, she did. Kara was built well, but when theyâd first met at a party Brainy hosted- and Lena didnât know Kara was friends with Brainyâs girlfriends, Nia -sheâd worn a sleeveless shirt like she was now, and Lena had walked into a sliding glass door. So the foolery had already gotten out of the way.
What was shocking, aside from how on earth, Kara had gotten a sunshine yellow and pink flannel shirt, with no sleeves, was- the almost crude drawing of a dinosaur on her bicep. It was drawn in different colors, like a rainbow, but it was big and sitting on her bicep. Its long tail extending a couple of inches across her bicep. The tip was red.
âYou have a tattoo?â Lena asked, curiously.
Kara glanced down at her shoulder, before looking back up and smiling with an enthusiastic nod.
âYeah! Itâs really cool, actually,â Kara shifted to lean forward across the table, letting Lena see it properly with a grin. âI had a fan a few months ago, draw it! His mother sent it to me and told me he was really sick and asked if I could show it off. You know, to make him happy?â
âShe meant, on your Instagram,â Alex interjected, amusedly.
âI did!â Kara argued, with s whispering, âeventually.â
Lena smiled then, leaning forward to rest her chin in one of her hands, and reach her free hand out to graze the dinosaur with her thumb. Karaâs grin turned into a soft smile as she did.Â
âSo you got it tattooed?âÂ
Kara shrugged, still smiling, âI thought itâd be cool.â
It was a sweet story and very Kara. Kara wasnât one for tattoos on her person, personally, but she appreciated them. Of course, this would be one of the only ways sheâd get one.Â
âSo are you going to keep creepily touching my sister in front of me or-â
Kara ducked her head as Alex spoke.
Lena, however, turned her head slowly and rose an eyebrow.Â
âDo you want a real answer?â Lena challenged.
Alex snorted, again, however, smiled as she rose her water bottle and took a drink. It was nice, at least, to be sort of friends with Alex.Â
Kara couldnât look either of them in the eyes.
--
Kara squinted, hard at her screen. Leaning forward as she did, and Lena was almost concerned sheâd fall out of her chair.Â
Except- this time, she bent her head down to look over her glasses and sighed. Tiredly. It didnât bode well for Lena either, because this was the fourth time that-
âLena?â Kara questioned, turning her head.
Lena glanced at her, before looking back at her own screen for a moment as a team of four tried to rush them. Really, it was adorable, Kara was trying to protect her so seriously in a video game.Â
She didnât need it, but her death ratio had been down a lot since Kara had learned how to play an effective support player. Hilariously, better than the support players on her professional team, but she suspected that was because Alex was helping her learn so she wouldnât be a hindrance.
No matter how many times Lena had told her, it didnât matter as long as they had fun, Kara had been serious about learning it.
âYes?â Lena answered.
âCould you move-â Kara paused, counting to herself before looking back at Lenaâs screen, â-six steps to the right when I tell you to? And then hip-fire, I think is the right word, with your sniper at a direct forty-five-degree angle to your left?â
âImmediately after?â
âYes- now!â
Lena didnât question Kara. She did as asked, moving her character exactly six steps and then hip-firing as she turned twice.
In the top-right corner, a notification popped up informing the entire lobby that lzbnluthr and in fact killed acti0nher0. With a headshot, no less. It was impressive.
Not even a second later, a shot came from Alexâs room, âGod damn it Luthor!â
Lena stared, impressed at her screen, and chuckled as Kara leaned back in her recliner, to yell back- âStop using the same tactics! Itâs predictable!â
âItâs not fair that youâre both geniuses!â
Lena laughed then, sitting her controller in her lap as the rest of their team rushed for the last few kills and won the game.Â
Kara turned, in her seat to give Lena a grin. She was met, however, by lips pressing to her cheek gently. She sat in shock, as Lena sat back in her chair and smiled adoringly.
âThank you, and Alex is right by the way.â
âAbout what?â
âYouâre a genius.â
Kara smiled, ducking her head.
The only thing Kara could reply with was, âyouâre a genius.â

[He waits for her to sympathize,
But she won't sympathize at all,
She waits all night to feel his kiss,
But always wakes alone]
âNightshift is all yours, Danvers. Have fun.â Leslie patted her shoulder as they passed in the hospitalâs hallway.
Kara muttered thanks, before moving towards the doorway.
The room was considerably dark, enough to make Kara pause. She hated, the idea that Alex was right on some level.Â
âYouâre just cursed to become as paranoid as I am, and Kara? Iâm paranoid for a reason.â
Maybe she was too- well no. She was. Without a doubt. After the events of the day before? A train shoot-out? The sounds, the sights, the smells. She didnât feel ridiculous for the way her breath held, and her eyes glanced around the locker room.Â
She was on the clock, a nurse during the night shift, but it felt odd- awful. To think about taking a step inside a place as dark as the eyes on the women that-
Her thoughts shifted to the woman, the one that had saved her, for a moment. She was oddly striking, and Kara felt as though sheâd seen her before. In the way, youâd see someone in an odd dream, or maybe passing? Kara didnât think she could forget her.
Suddenly, the sound of a door slamming caused her to jump backward, away from the cold darkness of the room. She held her breath, her eyes scanning hopelessly for whoever was there. For something, because sometimes not knowing was worse. Or, rather, more anxiety-inducing.
Just as sudden as the sound, Kara froze in fear as two very bright blue eyes suddenly opened. She could just barely make out the shape of the person, but the eyes- were stunning. Like an icy bright blue of a frozen lake that hurt to look at. She couldnât look away, instead, as the figure moved around the room, Kara followed them.
âLena.â The figure offered. It was feminine, with a slight Irish accent.
Kara blinked, offering a confused, âWhat?â
The figure didnât reply immediately. Instead, there was a soft sigh, and the figure moved closer. Part of Karaâs brain told her to run, leave. Do something. To not be a sitting duck, like she was currently. Instead, she was frozen, still holding her breath.
Even as the figure approached the doorway, never stepping into the light, Kara couldnât move.
Then, a single set of lights flickered on. Kara blinked as the woman that had saved her, the one she found her eyes drawn to, standing in front of her. Hand holding the doorway next to her, near the closest set of switches for the lights.
The woman looked from Kara to the lights and flicked the rest on. She blinked for a moment as if the lights hurt for a moment. As her eyes adjusted, she turned back to Kara, her bright eyes now a normal green. It was enough to make Kara blink. Had she imagined that?
âMy name,â the woman let out a soft sigh again, âis Lena. You offered me yours, is it now impolite to offer the same back?â
Kara swallowing as Lena crossed her arms. An amused twinkle in her eyes.Â
Karaâs eyes dipped. She noticed- the leather, all of it, was gone. Lenaâs corset, had been traded in for a baggy soft dark grey sweater, dark jeans, and- no shoes? There didnât seem to be any gloves or weapons on her eyes. It still felt- like an odd choice to wear at a hospital.
âIâm Kara.â Was all she could imagine.
Lena rose an eyebrow, tilted her head, and shifted her weight so she was leaning against the doorway.
âI know.â
Kara took in a breath, letting it out slowly. She thought about begging for answers, to know what Lena was- but she didnât really want those. Did she?Â
She was aware that sheâd been targeted. The train- she wasnât a genius, not like some of her friends, but she was smart. Sheâd been grabbed when she could have been shot. This- Lena had been there. The very real terrifying thought, that yes, this was all connected was there. She didnât have the nerve to ask about how deep it all was.
So- she asked the only thing she truly wanted to know.
âAre you alright?â Lena blinked at her in shock, âI- I- I mean- uh- sorry. It was...a lot, and you could have gotten hurt? Do you need help is that why youâre here?â
Lenaâs mouth parted slightly, and Kara saw a peak of fangs. Something she truly didnât want to think about, but they were there. Reminding her, this is not normal, that none of this was normal- and that Lena could-
âWhy do you care?â Lena finally asked, accusatory, âI could have been someone who tried to hurt you too.â
âYouâre good at reading people, Kara. You just trust them too much.â Alex had told her before. âAnyone, including myself, could hurt you.â
Kara took a step forward, and out of reaction, Lena took one back. Her eyes shooting to Karaâs feet as she did, but Kara only stepped forward enough to break into the room and shut the door. Kara had only ever been really good at three things, in her life, to such an extreme they had faults.
Reading people. Trusting them. And telling the truth.
âI donât think you wanted to, or want to, now.â
Lena huffed a laugh, âWhat?â
âYou would have if you wanted to by now. Weâre alone, and you could leave before anyone knew-â
And in the blink of an eye, Lena was in front of her, eyes glowing blue as she snarled- fangs showing, fistfuls of her jacket. Oddly, her eyes lacked conviction or true anger, so Kara relaxed just as quickly as she tensed.Â
Lena relaxed after a moment of searching her eyes for something. Probably fear, and Kara was afraid. She was terrified, but, not because of Lena. For whatever stupid reason, she wasnât afraid of the woman in front of her. Lenaâs fists relaxed until she was holding Karaâs jacket by her index and thumb, gently.
âYou donât see me as a monster, do you?â She asked softly.
Kara swallowed, and she didnât.
She didnât know why. Everything pointed to Lena not being right, not being human, being something more- but that didnât mean monster did it?Â
âNo.â She answered.
Lenaâs lips parted again, and she leaned back, stepping away from Kara without a sound. As if she could make no sound. Her head dipped towards the floor, and her arms crossed as she paced back and forth quietly.Â
Like she couldnât decide what she wanted to do. Like she was in conflict.
Kara wanted to help, but she didnât know how to. She didnât know Lena. Lena didnât know her.
âYou werenât hurt, were you?â Lena finally asked, looking up at her.Â
Kara blinked, at the suddenness of the question. Maybe she cares? She shook her head slowly, and Lenaâs brows dipped in disbelief.Â
âIâm okay! I promise!â Kara took a step forward, hands out in front of her to reassure Lena. âJust- just a little shaken still!â
Lena took a half step forward, before thinking about it. Instead, she let out a soft breath and nodded to herself. She unfolded her arms and let them fall beside her awkwardly.Â
âGood.âÂ
âWhy do you care?â Kara asked before she could stop herself, Lena looked at her confused, âYou- asked why I did. Why do you care?â
Lena looked away for a long moment.
Kara let her stand there in silence. She did want to know.Â
âI donât know,â Lena told her truthfully. âSomething about you is-âÂ
âGravitating?â Kara finished for her. âI get that.â
Lena stared at her, impassively, and Kara worried for a moment that sheâd crossed a boundary. That sheâd guessed wrong.Â
It was weird. This entire thing was weird.
âI have to go.âÂ
Kara blinked, âwait-â
And then Lena was gone.Â
Kara was left blinking into the suddenly empty room, and it was like there was no trace left of Lena there. Not even a trace of wind left, like- like she hadnât even existed.
Kara considered, for a moment, that maybe she had made Lena up. A figment of her imagination, except- there was a single small piece of paper on one of the benches. She bent down to pick it up.
There was a number.
Kara felt the corner of her mouth tick upwards.
Maybe she does care.
--
Jack shifted, beside her in the car. His hands clutching the steering wheel as they maneuvered back towards the highway. She loathed the idea theyâd have to make their way back to the manor. To Morgan Edge.
âLena.â Jack spoke, and Lena could hear the concern in his voice, âYou canât do this again.â
I know, she thought to herself, watching as the hospital became smaller in the rearview mirror. I know I shouldnât.
âWe have been friends a very long time.â
Sheâd thought of all the ways to justify herself to Edge, to Lillian. To- to everyone who questioned her, and yet- she didnât have a single lie to tell herself and Jack. To justify her interest.
The easiest was simply, âthe Lycans want her, and we canât have that.â But even that didnât feel like the truth, despite how close it may have been originally to the truth.
Leaving her interaction with Kara, there were no answers to the questions she wanted to ask. She hadnât asked a single one. Instead, there was only something simmering in her veins she didnât entirely understand, and a fascination she knew was dangerous.
âYou- I canât do this again.â
âI know.â She told him, still staring in the rearview mirror.
She understood.Â
If anyone was to fall, to blame, it shouldnât be him. It shouldnât even be Kara. It should be herself.Â
It should always be her.
The hospital disappeared out of sight. Lena felt herself tense. Sheâd been relaxed since leaving Kara. She only hoped Karaâs interest was strong enough to call or text the number sheâd left.Â
Part of her wasnât entirely sure if she actually hoped that. Maybe Kara was smart enough to stay as far away as possible?
I hope sheâs not foolish enough to give into this.
sports!au (whichever u'd like) + friends to lovers + âshut up for a second, will you?â for supercorp pleaseeee đđ
AAAAYYYEEEEE Thank u kindly! đ (I took creative liberties with âsportsâ)Here be the music I was listening to while I wrote this if u curious: [FUMES]
Kara couldnât stop the laugh that bubbled up, she had to release it. It was enough to make Lena turn her head and glare before turning back to the door in front of her, ear to door, and listen.
She was sure Alex was there listening and that thought terrified Lena. Kara didnât understand why really. No one intimidated Lena.
âYou know for a pro gamer- you know,â Kara waved a hand in the air, â-on one of the most well-known teams, youâre a wimp.â
âShut up for a second, will you?â Lena hissed quietly. âBesides I shoot other people, in video games, not-â
Kara laughed again, letting herself fall onto her bed. Loudly. It creaked loud enough for Lena to whip her head around in horror and glare. Kara simply grinned again and stayed silent.
Lena turned her head back to the door and listened again. After a few seconds of silence, Lena stood up and sighed, finally satisfied Alex was not there.
âTold you.â
Lena rolled her eyes, tugging her uniform shirt of dark blue and red with trims of white, off. Kara turned her head and waited until Lena gave a satisfied hum indicating she could look again.Â
Danvers found herself staring a moment. Lena looked comfortable, at ease finally, and there was something about that, that constantly made her stop and stare. Maybe it just really-
âeSports is not an actual sport,â Lena scoffed, hands on her hips, âIâm just really good at making grown men cry and it gets broadcasted to the entire world. My choice of career is entirely selfish, I assure you.â
There was a pause.
âAlso, Alex is terrified when she thinks I could possibly hurt you.â
Kara blinked, sitting forward, brows dipping.Â
Alex thought what? Lena couldnât hurt anyone!
âFirst off, snowboarding. Me. I play sports for a living too.â Kara pointed to herself proudly of her accomplishments. âI say itâs a sport. I donât even play video games really- well. Tomb Raider every once in a while. Why does Alex think you could hurt me?â
Lena snorted, shaking her head, âShe knew I wanted to ask you out.â
Kara blinked. What?
âAnyways,â Lena shrugged, âshe corned me the other night and told me if I hurt you, she can make my body disappear. Normally Iâm not intimidated but I think I was more scared by the idea that I could-â
âWait.â Kara interrupted. âYou want to ask me out? Me? Kara Danvers, me?â
Lena went silent for a moment, look of confusion. Kara almost thought sheâd misheard.
âYes?â Lena looked at her, a little concerned, âI havenât really been subtle. I kept hinting I liked you in hopes youâd tell me to back off. So I wouldnât have to confess and ruin our friendship.â
Kara blinked.Â
It wasnât unrequited! That was not what sheâd expected.
âYou really didnât know?â Lena asked, breaking free of her thoughts.
Kara shook her head, âno- I mean I thought Iâd silently suffer from my feelings-â
âDinner? Tonight?â Lena spoke, in a hurry, hope on her face for the world to see.
Karaâs face scrunched. âNo.â Lenaâs face dropped. âYou have that thing with your ice group.â
âOh. Shit. Damn it.â
Kara laughed at the annoyance that appeared on Lenaâs face. Lena rolled her eyes.
âIâll date you though.â Kara finally said. âIf thatâs what you want.â
âI just said what I want.â Lena sighed half-heartedly. âBut to make it easier for you, I want you in whatever capacity youâll let me have you.â
Kara rose a brow, âwhat if I said I wanted you in the fullest capacity?â
Lena blinked, cheeks turning pink a little and let out a strained, âsure.â
Kara laughed. âOkay. Iâm not kissing you though. Youâre still sweaty from your game.âÂ
Lena pouted.
âYou should get ready for your ice group thing. Brainy is expecting you.â
Lena sighed, shoulders dropping at the reminder before groaning dramatically.
Lena glanced up from the papers in front of her, towards the open area of the living room where Alex sat. The music was present but not enough to really bother her, she was more curious than anything.
Alex sat leaned back in her recliner, feet crossed, game playing in front of her. Lena didnât recognize it, but she looked comfortable and much like she was having fun. She tilted her head and turned to watch as Alex took on a group of enemies. Lena didnât have any criticism, she didnât backseat game, but-
Why is Korn playing?
She thought about it.
Alex liking heavy metal? Wouldnât really be a stretch. The most she knew was Alex loved action movies. Die Hard was her favorite. Alex didnât really talk to her much.
Maybe I should change that.
âIâm curious,â Lena started, âwhat exactly is your taste in music?â
Alex was silent for a moment before replying, shifting a little so Lena could hear her but never looked from her T.V.
âShouldnât you be filling out paperwork, rather than judge my music taste?âÂ
Lena grinned to herself, âI only have one more line to fill out. Iâm not judging. Just curious.â
Alex huffed amusedly.
âFeaturing Skrillex.â Was all Alex had to say.
How do you get her to talk more?
âSo you like-â
âNo.â Alex laughed. âItâs just an easy song to listen to, easy to learn, so when you play a game for the millionth time-â Alex gestured to her T.V. â-the boring parts arenât as boring.â
Lena hummed in thought.
âWhat game are you playing?â
Alex paused the game, sitting up in her chair, turning enough to give Lena an incredulous expression. Like she couldnât believe the audacity of the question. Lena blinked in return.
âWhat?â
âYouâre a gamer for a living and youâve never played Mass Effect 2?â
Lena scrunched her face, âI play First Person Shooters for a living, not- Role-Playing Games. I do it on a professional team.â
Alex rolled her eyes.
âHave you ever played a game to actually, play it? Or connect to the character youâre playing?â
âNot really. When I got into it, I focused on my career mostly. Iâve played MMOâs for streams, but not many single-player games.â
Alex cocked a brow, âso youâve never played Tomb Raider? The games your girlfriend is obsessed with?â
Lenaâs brows dipped, âshe said she played it every once in a while.â
Alex laughed then. For a minute. Lena was not amused.
âLena. Sheâs played old school Tomb Raider and-â Alex stood up then, to fully face her, â-up to current-gen. she was so obsessed we saw the movies like six times in theaters. Now she loves just about every Angelina Jolie movie.â
Lena blinked.
âTrust me,â Alex smiled, âshe just doesnât play as often with her career. Iâve tried to get her to buy her own set up instead of the tiny table she has in her room and PS4.â
Lena considered that.
âAnyways. Want to play something?â Alex asked, holding a controller out to her, âI bet I can beat your ass in at least one game we have.â
Lena grinned, standing up to accept the controller.
âYouâre on. Loser has to buy dinner.â
âDeal.â
--
Lena rubbed her neck, sighing in discomfort as she did.
Blonde hair came into view, Lena smiled affectionately as she did. She took a step forward before pausing and watching with curiosity. Kara seemed to be talking to a woman. A woman in cosplay sheâd only briefly seen before.
Was that Lara Croft?
Karaâs hands moved with excitement as she smiled. The other woman smiled back and answered her question before they seemed to dig themselves into a deeper conversation. Lena let her smile turn soft.Â
Kara really did like those games, didnât she?
Lena decided then, to at least approach. So she did, Moving slowly through the convention crowd as she did, only a few people recognizing her face or maybe her jacket.Â
When she was close enough, she reached out, squeezing Karaâs elbow slightly. Karaâs head whipped up, eyes lighting up, and smiling at her before turning to squeeze her in a hug and kiss the side of her head. The cosplayer seemed confused at first but smiled all the same.
âYou did so good!â Kara exclaimed. âHonestly? You carried your team.â
Lena laughed, keeping an arm around her waist when she pulled back to look at the cosplayer.
âWait, are you Luthor?â The woman asked, Lena nodded. âA little bit of a fan.â
Lena smiled, âThanks.â
âOh!â Kara interjected. âI was telling her about your killstreak at the end-â
â-it was dope.â The woman finished.
Kara nodded, âit was. Then I might have gotten sidetracked.â
The woman laughed, Lena rose a brow.
âA little more than sidetracked. I thought I was a fan? Your girlfriend?â Lena nodded, the woman smiled, â-your girlfriend just schooled me. Half of that I didnât even know.â
Kara coughed, cheeks pink, turning her head away for a moment. âItâs just wiki-â
âNo itâs not! Like half of that was deep lore stuff! Iâve never read the books or comics.â
Lena grinned. âIâm dating a nerd.â
Kara rolled her eyes. âIâm not a gamer. I just only really play those and like two other games.â
The woman chuckled. âWell, I have to get back to work. You were great.â
Lena shook her hand, âThanks.â
Kara turned then, to grab Lenaâs attention, and smiled at her. Lena smiled back, reaching forward to grasp her hands.
âReady?â
Lena rose a brow, âhave you seen the Tomb Raider booth?â
Kara blushed again, shaking her head.
âThen letâs go.â
âWait- why?â
Lena smiled, âIâve just met a new side of you I havenât seen before. I want to get to know it.â
Kara smiled back, âItâs really nerdy. You sure you can handle that?â
Lena snorted, âOf course. You might even be able to convince me to play a game or two.â
Karaâs eyes lit up again, turning to hurriedly drag her girlfriend in the direction of the booth. Lena laughed the entire time.

Thereâs something inherently wrong with the picture as she seeâs it. Their living room is empty, Lena isnât where she was before Kara left the room. It would almost give her a heart attack if she hadnât seen the one big sign. The one big flaw with whatever Lenaâs plan was.
Krypto is gently poking around the living room, tail happily wagging, but he keeps looking towards the couch. Every time heâs finished looking behind or inside things, he looks back to the couch, and wags his tail. Kara tilts her head experimentally, and listens- yup. He knows.
Kara moves carefully to the backside of the couch and finds her girlfriend, hunched over, hiding, and almost deathly quiet. Lena looks up at her and frowns as if she gave her away. Like sheâs a traitor for such an act!
â...You do know he knows where you are right?â Kara asks out of curiosity.
Lena shakes her head.
âBabe,â she starts, âhe knows. He can hear your heartbeat. Heâs Kryptonian too. I donât understand.â
Lena stares at her again. Frowning.
âLena he keeps looking over here. Heâs just being nice.â
Lena sighs, clearly giving up, âKrypto! You cheater!â
At the sound of his name, the little white dog barks and rushes over to his other moms side. He lays down, wagging his tail and barks. Lena canât even be mad. She snorts, reaching over to pet him and kiss the top of his head. As she stands, he does too and turns around in circles before sitting down. Tail still wagging.
As Lena pats her thighs, bending over, he floats up into her arms. Once heâs safe and secure he reaches up to lick her face. It takes Lena moving his head away and asking him to stop for him to actually listen. Then itâs Karaâs turn for attention. She canât even be upset. Heâs adorable, why wouldnât he get the most attention?
âSo what did you need?â
âWha- oh,â Kara lets out, petting the puppy who continues to wag his tail, âI was wondering if youâd seen his leash. Then while you were trying to poorly hide from him, I remembered you taught him how to wake me up. He doesnât deserve a walk.â
Itâs a joke but Krypto still looks disappointed.
âHe whacks you with his tail until you wake up,â Lena snorts, âyou think he wouldnât do that if I asked, even if you didnât take him on a walk?â
Kara pretends to think for a moment.
âGood point, walkies!â Kara starts, Lena lets him go and he happily barks towards the door, âweâll be back.â
âOf course,â Lena smiles, leaning over to give her a small kiss.
When they break apart, Kara grins and clips the leash she very clearly seeâs at the door- and grumbles about when she seeâs it in plain sight -and waves. Lena rolls her eyes but waves back all the same.
âSay bye bye to momma!â Krypto barks at Lena, âWeâll be back!â He barks twice.
âBye bye,â she laughs, shaking her head as the door shuts behind them
#21 - âWeâre in the middle of a thunderstorm and you wanna stop and feel the rain?â
Kara frowns, mid parking lot, crossing her arms like a puppy. Doesnât move an inch. It takes Lena a moment to turn around, from the entrance of the supermarket. Lena canât help but be both amused and frazzled at the sight.
The Kryptonian is soaked to the bone, when she moves itâs like a fucking tidal wave flings off of her. Yet, she doesnât look bothered in the least. More upset by the fact Lena seems to be rushing her, as is her nature, when they have time. Itâs the thunder. It makes Lena nervous, but itâs amusing nonetheless.
âWhy do you always do that?â Kara asks, not moving.
âDo what?â Lena looks around, frantically, in search of more thunder.
Kara sighs and motions with her arms, indicating the entire outside world. Lenaâs brows just dip. Sheâs absolutely confused as to what sheâs done to cause the display. Kara must notice this, as she moves closer, water dripping off of her as she does. Itâs even more amusing.
âYou always rush!â Kara starts, âwe have the entire weekend! Lena! You have time to breathe and feel the rain! Itâs so serene and lovely!â
Her face scrunches.
âIt gets everything soaked, it ruins fabrics, and it floods parts of the world,â Lena starts cautiously, âhow is that lovely?â
Kara does a twirl in the rain, dramatically flailing her hands around before coming to a stop she almost falls over from. The near fall is enough to get Lena to step out into the rain like she could possibly catch her. Once Kara has righted herself Lena steps back into the safety of cover.
âHow is it not?! It doesnât do just those things!â Kara is absolutely flabbergasted. Her shirt looks like it could weigh her down, thereâs no way she can see through those glasses, and her hair- she looks like an upset, excited dog.
Only Kara.
âThe storm-â
âWill pass! It doesnât mean we have to jump from one moment to the next in a flash! Itâs okay to breathe!â
Lena deflates. She has a habit of doing that. Of jumping and constantly moving even when she doesnât have to. Sheâs been...trained by the Luthors to do that. That moving and constantly being one step ahead pays off. They never told her it also means you miss important things along the way. She hates the idea of that. Of missing things, not noticing as she passes them by, because she moved too fast.
âYouâre right...Iâm sorry.â
Kara shakes her head, water flying everywhere, and Lena canât help but laugh at the sight.
âItâs okay, but you have to remember to slow down.â
Lena smiles, âIâll try.â
âGood!â Kara claps her hands, smiles, then opens her arms for a hug, âhug?â
âOh absolutely not!â
Kara takes another steps forward.
âKara Danvers! Stop right there!â Kara does not.
The guy at the cash register thinks sheâs insane when she tries to hold the doors shut. Theyâre automatic.
hey, bud, only if you want to, 25 for whichever ship you want?
#25 - âI canât believe you talked me into this.â
With Laze
Itâs got to be the lamest fucking thing Maze has ever been too, if anything, sheâs certain sheâs going to murder someone just to alleviate her boredom. As if her mind has been read, Linda turns, leveling her with a non-believable glare and smacks her arm. Itâs not hard. Sheâs afraid to hurt Maze. Which is the dumbest fucking thing ever for someone so smart because sheâs a demon if she canât take a clock to the jaw, what good is she?
âOuch, you hurt me,â she starts sarcastically.
Linda looks to her, face full of panic until Maze canât help but let out a snort. The good doctor crosses her arms and faces forward from her seat at the bar. Staring into the open sea of boring people discussing the human mind probably or science that Maze doesnât need to hear about. Linda makes it sound semi-interesting, but old white men in grey suits? No thanks.
âIâm a demon,â Maze reminds her, leaning back against her elbows and letting her head fall to the side just to observe Linda.
âIâm human!â Linda reminds her back, âand I- I donât like the thought of hurting you. I never have.â
This is uncomfortable territory. Maze has gotten so much better at being open with her feelings, but, she still- just- sometimes sheâs not prepared for the conversations they should have. Linda is still patient almost to a fault but itâs infuriating. Sheâs a demon. Emotions shouldnât be nearly as scary as they are.
Yet here they are.
She hates it too, she hates it because she already knows sheâs going to change the subject. She, herself, cannot stand it enough yet to be open like that. Like Linda might deserve. So instead she sits up, turns on her stool, and picks up her nearly forgotten glass of alcohol.
âI canât believe you talked me into this.â She says mostly to herself.
Linda slips a hand to touch the closest forearm, head turning to smile at her. She pauses, liquid in her mouth and stares. Itâs stunning Linda still smiles so thankfully at her. Like nothing has changed. Like she doesnât know how Maze feels, maybe she doesnât.
âIâm glad you came,â Linda chuckles, reaching forward to rub away liquid that leaked from the corner of Mazeâs mouth, âI would probably want to die, especially if I have to talk to another man and hear him talk down to me. Like I donât know anything.â
Maze turns in a flash, swallowing her drink, and giving Linda the most serious looks she possibly can.
âIâll cut their throats where they sleep.â She means it.
It should be so amusing or as endearing as it is, really, but Linda canât help it. She chuckles, leaning forward to hide her face in the demonâs shoulder like no one else is around and just laughs. Maze doesnât understand why sheâs laughing but wraps an arm around her all the same. Frowns confusedly.
âI donât understand why are you-â
âItâs just,â Linda starts, sitting up again and wiping tears from her eyes, âyouâre still the first person who means that when they say it. Aside from Lucifer, but I feel like youâd beat him to the punch. Just because they slightly offended me.â
Mazeâs frown deepens, âWhy wouldnât I? They donât know what the fuck theyâre talking about.â
Linda shakes her head, patting one of Mazeâs cheeks and smiles. Her hand lingers for a moment.
âThank you.â
Maze is still lost, but she doesnât feel the need to ask further. Not when Linda smiles at her like that.
