This is Lye/Christopher! Lye (bastardized from his original name Lying Spider) is one of my dnd characters..... he’s a changeling bard (college of whispers subclass) ex-spy and assassin on the run after a mission went terribly terribly wrong and he was set up to take the fall. He escaped his own public hanging and awol’d out into the wilderness of real society and since then has been trying to avoid the long fingers of his old spy cell hunting him down. With how the plot of the campaign is going, he won’t be outrunning them for long, because they’re very close to catching up. :^)
Lye has a really strange and warped concept of self. He can shift his physical appearance to almost any humanoid form he could ever desire at a moment’s notice. In his natural form, he’s a fey changeling with a spider appearance and theme. But ‘Lye’ is sort of his name for.... all the characters that comprise him. As a spy he’s been built trained and brainwashed to specialize in political subterfuge and disguise, constantly creating personas of completely different people, different races, backgrounds, personality, etc, to either assassinate, poison, worm secrets from, or impersonate. Some of these ocs (lol) he spends more time developing, cementing them in the real world by creating forged ID, making friends and history, spinning a web of decent to create a fully realised person from nothing. He views all these different personas as almost like separate entities - they share the same memories experiences and concepts but are completely different in personality, accent and their approaches to life. Christopher hates Daniella (narcissistic arrogant noble woman) even though she’s just another facet of Lye, and Amnesty (dreamy, calm and collected courtier) talks about Christopher with sympathy and a little bit of disappointment.
His current ‘default’ character is Christopher, his first real personality he’s been able to create solely to represent himself, after a lifetime of being used as a malleable tool by his owners. So he went pretty wild (’imma make him ANIME AS FUCK and hes gonna have PINK HAIR and MULTICOLOUR EYES and TATTOOS THAT CHANGE FROM DAY TO DAY and a FAT COCK’), and Christopher is kind of... the person that Lye WANTS to be. Carefree, cocky, smarmy, flirtatious, Chrispher is super nosy, has a kinda brash London accent, and does a bad job at hiding his INTENSE levels of paranoia and anxiety, but he’s trying to be A Good Person now that Lye no longer has to kill and poison and destroy lives, and he’s doing an Alright Job At It.
As a dnd character Lye is built around being GODLIKE at disguising himself as other people, with expertise in deception, the Actor feat which lets him mimic the speech of anyone he’s heard talk, a bag of disguise clothes, Disguise Self for when he needs to really fake clothing or accessories he wouldn’t have access to, and the Charlatan background so he can forge documents. His bard class is flavoured more around fey magic of speech and deception - he has a burned brand of a spider hidden on his tongue as his arcane focus to tap into his fey abilities.
