Lyeberry #13: Luckyday Potluck + Film Screening
Santa Monica Museum of Art (Santa Monica) 8-9:30pm
Artists Akina Cox and Joseph Imhauser, the founders of ongoing event series Lyeberry, host a screening of new video works that explore Camp Mozumdar, a site of several communal and utopian experiments in Crestline, California. Guests can enjoy a picnic on the artists’ handmade quilts, watch films composed from home movies and found footage, and discuss collectives, utopias, and shared experience while sharing a meal of homemade curry and fruit punch. Admission is free. At the nearby 18th Street Arts Center, artist Patricia Fernandez hosts a Performative Lecture in conjunction with her current exhibition Points of Departure (between Spain and France) at 6pm.
Dwell On Design
LA Convention Center (Downtown) 10am-7pm
Opening day of Dwell on Design, a three day design expo programmed by the editors of Dwell magazine. The event features a full schedule of events including 90 onstage programs, 200 speakers, and more than 2,000 modern furnishings and products. Dwell on Design is America’s largest design event. Downtown Events and Openings
356 Mission hosts a screening of The Wooster Group’s Rumstick Road. Composed by Spalding Gray and Elizabeth LeCompte in response to the suicide of Gray’s mother, Rumstick Road combines Gray’s personal recorded conversations, family letters, the writings of Mary Baker Eddy, 35mm slides, music, and dance. The screening begins at 8pm and is introduced by L.A. artist Shannon Ebner.
The nearby SCI-Arc Gallery hosts an opening for Heather Flood: Punk’d beginning at7pm. The exhibition explores the visual effects that can be produced when two-dimensional graphic patterns are translated into three-dimensional constructions. Flood and SCI-Arc Director Eric Owen Moss discuss the installation in a conversation beginning at 7pm. An exhibition by Alison Veit and Emily Jane Rosen opens at Chin's Push in Highland Park at 7pm.
