Emilia really be tryin her damndest to yank Subaru outta his bad headspace.
She’s being pretty on point too to say that she’s “sure” Subaru has thought about lots of stuff she can’t “even begin to imagine” because MAN. She ain’t got no idea the extent of it.
Also. Lol Emilia’s sarcasm with the retort on Subaru & promises. Unexpectedly went right where it hurt. I do think her view on promises & Subaru will become more nuanced and wonky in the future though when she learns Subaru is in a weird position where he kinda is going around keeping promises to versions of people that never existed & it clashes with promises he has made to those whom remember.

Lusbel gripped Subaru’s hand as they died? Fuck. What a detail to add to this already tragic scene.
Of course in the midst of tragedy though Subaru is describing Reinhard’s face to be “beautiful” despite it being marred with despair. Guy checked out Julius when he was possessed now he checks out Reinhard when sliced in half.
Fucking hell. The sheer amount of bad prose in this scene is obscene.
Since there is so much here I’m needing to line break this post. What a troll Tappei is yeeeeeesh. Welp onwards to analyze I go.
Firstly. Sirius turns her head to the “heavens” when she prattles on about becoming one and her view on Wrath not being a needed thing in this world whatsoever.
Heaven again will come up as Sirius speaks about love, but this whole “as if it were the judgement of the heavens themselves” bit with regards to what Sirius has apparently learned about love is noteworthy.
What exactly do the Observers want? It’s fairly unclear. And Sirius was speaking of a world with no tragedy where everybody was 1 and Wrath (which is a Sin) doesn’t need to exist anymore. Is Tappei trying to indicate the Observers maybe want one unified, sinless world under them?
Moving on from that muse. Following Sirius’s prattling Lusbel gets yeeted. But the prose has something curious to it.
It’s not referring to Lusbel being chucked but merely “the courage” (which is the virtue Lusbel was JUST associated with I spoke of last post) that received “envy from the world” as the narration puts it which gets chucked.
I pointed out recently in another post too how Lusbel in this situation is paralleling Subaru’s own circumstances so having Lusbel getting associated with being given Envy is undoubtedly no coincidence imo.
The next built of bad prose comes from how Lusbel getting yeeted is referred to being hurled “into the sky on the greatest stage imaginable” as he flies towards the “sun” of all things and gets “blessed” by the applause of everybody upon doing so.
It additionally gets worse as when Lusbel is coming down the pause point of his trajectory when it’s at its utmost is described as a “zenith” and that specific word in this story has solely been utilized to refer to Sword Saints standing at the top of humanity with their swordsmanship in isolation.
Frankly it’s ridiculous how much Sword Saints have been linked to that word. If you deadass wanna see how bad it is just plop zenith in my blogs search bar without a tag and the thing ought to pull up a bunch of posts.
Ahem. Back on topic. Basically what I’m getting at is that this entire blessing and zenith bit is additionally critiquing the Sword Saint role (which is occupied by Reinhard atm) in its own way as Lusbel is being shoved onto a positon of great importance on the stage and is seen as a hero by this adoring audience.
An audience which is clapping for the destruction of the person in said role with no regard to the death of the individual. In this case for Lusbel a literal death, but in the case of the Sword Saint a metaphorical death of humanity as all others around them applaud them being a hero and weapon of the kingdom.
LOOK AT THIS! Tappei really continuing the “hero” association for Lusbel and then goes on to link him to “virtue” and specifically the virtue of courage.
Tappei is so consistent with prose and how bad certain words are my god. Admire the sheer consistency tbh.
I’d heard the anime cut a bunch of moments in this Arc where Subaru showcased himself being combat capable and HOLY that doesn’t seem to be an understatement. He really just ragdolled Sirius and sent her careening below.
Also. One thing here. But dang Sirius of all people asking why Subaru is so angry. Helps further highlight how angry Subaru has been this Arc.
Final tidbit but uhhhhm. Tappei placing such emphasis on how “unexpectedly light” Sirius’s body is makes me direct a side-eye to Tappei. The only other weirdly light body stuff we’ve heard of is with regards to the Oni’s and they may have been created by a Warlock/Witch.
I’m gonna keep an eye to see if Theresia or Kurgan are described with weirdly light bodies because if they aren’t that’s gonna certainly be noteworthy.
Could add more proof to my previous assertions in her character design thread & my Malice Before the Theatre commentary that Sirius is being animated by her Authority of Wrath and that’s what is basically reanimating Fortuna’s corpse. Since obviously if the Oni are made by a Warlock or Witch the process likely occurred via an Authority.

Aaaaaaah so Subaru squeezing Beatrice’s hand so hard after returning wasn’t solely to due stress but also having wanted to reciprocate Lusbel’s grab of comfort to him.
Eugh. Subaru believing he has 0 value if he can’t both “save Lusbel and beat Sirius” is nasty indeed.
He’s atleast made SOME progress in this toxic mentality in that now Subaru recognizes the people around him would forgive him if he couldn’t. Small silver linings I suppose.
That’s neat to see one of the people emphasized last LN during Sirius’s speech as being more resistance crop up again here to attack Subaru.
It’s a good way to showcase how Tappei doesn’t add little details all willy nilly. He did describe that beast man for a reason and he did describe that’s swordswomen with an eyepatch for a reason too.
