So firstly, Reinhard is saying he finished saying his “farewells to Grandmother” which excuse me? This guy was pointedly denying that Theresia was his Grandmother over there and then called her an imposter.

The innocuous explanation is that Reinhard realizes how ignorant Subaru is of what went down there and just desires to reassure his friend. Which? Totally plausible for Reinhard, I will admit.

However. It is nonetheless another sign that deep down Reinhard potentially did view Theresia there as his Grandmother and he childishly couldn’t accept that possibility because it’d wreck his worldview.

After all that, let’s get onto the most concerning thing. This line.

After all, Reinhard was the sort of guy who kept his promises, unlike Subaru.

There are 3 reasons I consider this alarming. The first stems from how Subaru is clearly misreading everything about Reinhard’s mental state in this scene, thus making anything Subaru strongly believes in to have odds of more likely then not being the polar opposite.

The second stems from the fact Reinhard & Subaru narratively parallel as people. This makes Reinhard liable to be one whom is going to break his promises at some point.

The third concern is the fact that Reinhard has since as a child abided by a promise to Heinkel to not brainwash people anymore.
