#LunchtimeBotany: Common/grey field speedwell (Veronica persica, possibly polita but I think we're a bit far north?). Excited to see my first speedwells in flower this year, on the corner of some wasteland. I brought a tiny sprig home to see the flower open fully. Apparently travelers used to sew speedwells into their coats as a good luck travel charm, hence the name. Lots more species of speedwell will be appearing in the coming weeks/months. In Edinburgh look out for their distinctive tiny blue flowers all along the Meadows' edge (as well as everywhere else, basically). #botany #flowers #pavementplants #urbanflowers #wildflowers #naturalhistory #Edinburgh #Scotland (at Edinburgh, United Kingdom) https://www.instagram.com/p/BvwExReAfqS/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1vcr08tn2y4x3
