i’ve gotten a lot of asks, in regards to this post, so i’ve decided to make just a general post about it? and just how i honestly think that aranea and luna met prior to kingsglaive, and how luna’s ( untimely ) death eventually leads to her leaving the empire.
THE BEGINNING
the two had met in passing, and ofc aranea knew about the infamous oracle princess ( who lost her entire family to niflhiem ). but aranea never really ... gave her a second thought. she felt bad for her, don’t get the wrong idea, its just that luna is most certain NOT something aranea wants to get involved with ... ya girl just doesn’t wanna get involved with the fluerets in general.
but she of course ends up working with ravus, and EVENTUALLY is reassigned to be on princess oracle guard duty.
aranea pulls at the empire’s leg, asking about pay— if its worth it and all.
eh.. they pay her well enough. its maybe a little more than what she was getting before, but she thinks it won’t be too bad... well, she was very wrong.
reason being— oracle duties consist of traveling around tenebrae, healing those afflicted with starscourge, visiting the general population, talking..... a lot.... of talking..... with the people.... and aranea’s armor isn’t exactly IDEAL for tenebrae’s weather / environment.
so aranea is asked to simply guard, and escort her from place to place ( within reason ) and to ... y’know ... make sure no lucis scum come and swipe her from the empire.
and... aranea and luna’s friendship sorta has a rocky start— because ... well ... its ara?? and her and luna are opposites ... she also doesn’t like trailing this tiny princess around cities and buildings. because gods know luna wanders off to help whoever wherever whenever ( she’s also really fucking fast in those heels, lets be honest ).
THE MIDDLE
and so the two go on plenty adventures together.
luna healing citizens of scourge, ara looking intimidating as hell in her armor ( causing small children to run to luna to be protected ), and luna taking care of aranea too.
whether its luna picking up on when the heat is getting to her ( in her armor and all ), or ara getting a scratch or two from some asshole who thought it wise to try and grab the oracle... luna also has ara join her for tea / coffee / breakfast in the morning.
and.... i swear to g o d arauna / lunarwind / highmoon is the air i breathe.
anyways... aranea is gay as hell for luna and u can’t....... tell me........ otherwise.....
aranea also makes zero ( 0 ) attempts to tell luna, or even show her, how much she cares for her... because everything she does now is required of her ( being the body guard and all ). so luna doesn’t really suspect anything... other than aranea genuinely warming up to her as a person, not so much aranea having a crush on her.
THE END
aranea would be there when she tries to sneak off to crowe— and she’d try to help her out.... to an extent. she knows if they’re caught, it’ll be tough for them to get out of said situation.
anyways... sneaking her out to crowe doesn’t go according to plan, and while she doesn’t get caught with luna escaping, she’s still punished by being reassigned else where.
and so around the time luna is about to leave for lucis, for the signing ceremony, they say goodbye... and it... is really uneventful. their goodbyes are kept formal, and once she’s gone— aranea just buries herself in more work for more gil...
THE EXTRA SAD END
when luna dies, that’s where the line is drawn. aranea backs out of niflhiem, because she’s???? not okay with the senseless murder of princess oracles.
tldr; aranea is assigned to guard luna, proceeds to fall in deep gay hell for luna, and before luna leaves for insomnia — their goodbyes are lame and uneventful. and once luna dies, ara is pissed and leaves niflhiem for that reason.
