Flaming Moon

Nami cuddled against Luffy’s side in the crow’s nest of the Sunny. Her heart was still racing, but she felt amazingly relaxed. Luffy was such a great lover, unexpectedly! He wasn’t really interested in sex, but he could definitely go with the flow, so to say. Their first kiss, too, had been like that: feral and intense, yet gentle. Nami sighed and shifted her position a little, inadvertently grazing the cross-shaped scar on Luffy’s chest with her fingernails. She retracted her hand immediately: she never touched his scar, knowing that it was like a sacred mark for him. A reminder of his late brother... “Hey, Nami.” She looked up at him, hoping not to see sadness on his features. Sure, Luffy smiled and laughed most of the time, but she knew his other look too: a longing in his eyes that always broke her heart. “If we’ll have children one day, how should we name them? Luffy was grinning at her, no trace of sadness on his face. “Oh.” Nami blushed. She wasn’t expecting that kind of question all of a sudden. She stared at the moon partially visible beyond one of the windows, pensive. “What about ‘Luna’ for a girl?” she replied. “For a boy, instead… ‘Ace’, maybe?” Luffy’s body tensed, but it was just a moment. “Great choices,” he exclaimed, beaming, but Nami didn’t miss the melancholy in his eyes. She bit her lips and whispered, “Sorry for bringing him up.” “It’s fine.” Luffy pulled her closer for a brief but sweet kiss under the moonlight. “Ace is always with me,” he added, a hand on his chest. Nami nodded at him. I’ll be forever by your side, too, she thought. Then, she dried her tears and dozed off in Luffy’s warm embrace. --- A few years later... Two twins are running on a sandy beach at the outskirts of the Foosha Village, their happy laughter filling the blue sky over them. They are ten years old, with red hair and warm, brown eyes, and they love playing pirates “just like mom and dad”. Their names are Ace and Luna, and they named their imaginary crew Flaming Moon.
