okay, i absolutely love kevin. and i know it's fun to talk about how much of a jerk he is, but my boy is so much more than that. he's definitely dismissive of arnold's abilities, just like everyone else is dismissive of him (except naba, who seems to be the first person to actually believe in him), but he doesn't actually lash out at arnold until he decides to leave uganda. the boy just witnessed a murder, the victim's blood was still fresh on his face, he was panicking and he lashed out. and he regretted it so much. the entirety of spooky mormon hell dream is him beating himself up for hurting arnold. he actually compares himself to the worst people he can think of (hitler included) and says that leaving arnold is worse than anything they've ever done. and when he comes back and sees that arnold didn't need him after all, that arnold was probably better off without him? he decides he needs to prove himself and goes through with the worst plan possible. like, i know he can be full of himself, but this is the same boy that felt so guilty about framing his brother for eating a donut that he dreamt about going to hell? he is a sweet boy who misjudged his best friend and he's genuinely been through a lot so please just give this boy the credit he deserves.
