Remembering Luis Van Rooten (November 29, 1906 – June 17, 1973)
Born in Mexico City, he was especially skilled with languages, and it was his linguistic talents that got him his first jobs in radio. He was heard on several New York-based radio programs, including Dimension X, The Mysterious Traveler, and X Minus One. Luis van Rooten starred for several months as Rex Stout’s Nero Wolfe, and he could also be heard on Philip Marlowe, Escape, Let George Do It, The Columbia Workshop, and Ellery Queen.
On screen, he voiced the King, desperate to find a bride for his son, in Disney’s Cinderella and appeared in The Big Clock and Detective Story. He popped up on Perry Mason, The Defenders, Peter Gunn, and Alfred Hitchcock Presents.
