"they dont really care,

or they only care bc theyre good people, good heroes,

like Link dont genuinely gaf about some idiot who harassed them probably their entire adventure..."

like i feel this way too but the image of you becoming physical in their realm, thinking this all the time, avoiding the heroes as you sort of make your way across their worlds, able to go to maybe like big plot important or spiritual areas during the games and get portal-ed to the next world, justifying yourself like:

"i was probably so annoying,, if they even heard me in the first place :/

would i have just been more shit to deal with for Link??

how could I dare to call myself a worthwhile companion of his if Im not even good company usually,

or what about all the times I failed a puzzle or something, was that seen as failing to help him??"

and theres just no way, as much as youve crushed on Link every game he's been in, that it crosses ur mind to dare to seriously consider urself a love interest 💀 or its even sadder like:

"what if i sound like her? Do i sound like Cia or Hylia?? was i just another creep bothering him? shit..💔" :((

like, Links always shown with women, even if its not consistently Zelda, and even then theyll make this wholeee big deal about them being "soulmates" - either in game or online loz fans since theyre always paired across the games 🥲

so u distract yourself with the worlds out there, just exploring and fascinated by the sights of the games irl version ur in now, and just kinda either focus on the nostalgia of it all or on the positive fanboying moments you had over Link in the games when you played as him

the memories of hilariously screwing up puzzles and accidentally setting stuff on fire just before a cutscene would happen bring a small smile on your face as you see each one in real life and the moments you realize you recognize the area!!

u even try out the safer puzzles, but youre kinda a ghost? thing? here

it seems the animals and things react to and hear your voice well enough,

but your hand passes right thru everything sentient, and you can fly a bit like creative mode is on

u guess ur a disembodied voice, the perspective of video game world logic making you think since Link was your avatar before, but now he's a real person, that leaves you kinda adrift,,

you do reflect in stuff, so u wonder if thats a way someone would see you?

its as ur exploring around you nearly shit your nonexsistent pants as you spot a realistic version of what looks like the Link from Twilight Princess?? the symbol on his forehead and the pelt around his shoulders, the darker blonde hair giving it away quickly after freezing in shock just at the sight of Any Link appearing

you scramble to fly/run off, knowing he probably cant see you, but squeaking a bit as you take off hoping he didnt hear, whew-

you thought it was all good, go back to adventuring around, exploring like an unbothered tourist, the melancholy thoughts lingering every now and then..

"i cant let any of the links from the games find out i know all about them or at least their adventures,, who knows how badly thatll go down, i know id be freaked if that happened to me...."

".... what if im even like an evil spirit to them?? like i Possessed them for the adventure???!!! oh god oh no- i can never meet them- they were right, Never meet your heroes, they might just smite you-"

it keeps you paranoid enough to notice when you run into what looks like the grown up version of the Ocarina of Time/Majoras Mask Link-!!

And hide, immediately.

you had gone to visit the old temple and ducked behind the statue with the dramatically lit old temple revealing sunlight glinting off a hylian man's armor that looked like Fierce Deity's… the mask hanging from his waist, a small ponytail like his slightly aged up version seen in game, and Fierce Deity's motifs being the reason you guess he's from those games,

he seems to be searching for something, pulling out a new mask you haven't seen before, and holding it just in front of his face before turning every which way, ur glad its shady behind the goddess statue, though ur still not sure if youd even be seen in magical items like masks yet..

and it just keeps happening.

when you had only seen teh Twilight Princess Link after over a month into exploring, and now a week later seeing Ocarina/majora Link… now it was getting suspicious..

it went from spotting all these uniquely designed versions, of a Link still clearly, at least once a week, then twice a week, and now youre convinced after seeing a new Link three days in a row they were… looking for you??

oh no, are they all Together??? ... ARE THEY ADVENTURING TO HUNT YOU DOWN??? NOOO- SHIT-!!!

Meanwhile.

on the Chain of Links side:

Every Link, new after initialing joining and finding things to bond over with others: "well uh, anyway,, how many companions did u guys have? It sounds a little crazy when i tell ppl this, but, i always had a funny and kind companion no matter what, who i really, Really Liked (def wasnt in love with) who was, uh a male voice? like,, mostly in my head?? haha,, hbu guys?"

all nervous but then, casually the rest responding,

Every Link already joined: "alright, get the board, we gotta another one."

New Link: "??? another??"

the dawning realization You were always there, a sweet masculine voice that laughed and teased and helped and hurt at Link's pain, sometimes more offended than even the hero was at times at others they met during their adventure, who always defended his honor and valued his time and hard work

basically keeping them sane, feeling appreciated by at least one person out there, the mutual feeling of trying not to laugh to themselves like a madman when you cracked jokes during villain speeches, frustrated at puzzles, etc.

like legit just the spider man pointing meme but x9

(wind platonically obv, bro misses his big brother :[ )

and then the final collection of all of them and as they follow the Shadow they all start to feel crazier and crazier

Legend whipping his head around in a dungeon, swearing to himself he heard your signature sigh and grumble at an empty treasure chest there..

Wild outright bolting off from the group one time as he hears your happy laughter echoing off a hill that looked perfect for shield surfing….

after too many close calls and confusion, finally one fesses up and the rest follow after realizing theyve each been hearing you again.

Legit could hear a pin drop in the ensuing realization, the shock, joy, heartbreak, but hope spreading across all of the heroes faces one night at the campfire when this they finally talked about it

but the lock in after they discover this is crazy, like they dont even need words, just unconciously all agreeing that he (you) seems to be lingering either about the heroes themselves, like old times (the yearning when Sky says that aloud is politely ignored for all their sakes) or near the Shadow theyve been chasing across their worlds,

either way, to follow their Guide once more is to simultaneously follow the Shadow, a win-win tbh for them all, (def not worried about you being "around" the mysterious threat the Shadow is, nope not at all, its fine- he's fine- our guide's a voice! he should be just fine…)

and they dont acknowledge the even deeper fear about why you havent truly talked to any of them, disquieted each in their own ways at not having your voice talk to them constantly like you used to when you were with them,

which slowly ramps up the tension more and more as each of them gets close but not quite close enough to you before your voice is gone again, drifting off where they cant follow or losing the sound trail of you, before every Link can just call out to you- but none of them could ever get your name, taking to calling you nicknames or My Guide-

like the image of you avoiding them thinking the literal worst, esp as you finally catch sight of the group in full glory pulling their glowing swords and magicks and shit seemingly after finding your new hiding spot, like You out here like:

meanwhile the Links heard you but also can see the Shadow in the area as well lol 😭

the big terrible misunderstanding is actually driving the heroes crazy, bc in contrast to you they out here like:

no seriously, they get more vicious in battle with the Shadow, heads on a swivel as they try to hear you, or even, see you??

like the renewed hope (old flame burning anew) that breaks out amongst the group after Hyrule spots a non-Shadow figure run and trip in a mirror after entering an old temple right as he hears your voice make a startled noise, like you'd tripped- meaning you had a body now!! possibly!!

(Twilight visibly trying to rein in his emotions at the mention of seeing you in mirrors lol)

just an endless game of cat and mouse lmao

whats that post someone commented (i think it was for SVSSS fandom, if you in that lol) something like:

"this is like a Romantic/ soulmates AU/ reunited and it feels so good/ pining/ miscommunication fix-it fic for one party (Link(s))

and a Hurt/no comfort/ angst/ betrayal/ heartbreak/ painful yearning fic for the other party (you)" LOL

no idea in what way this would get resolved bc of this

but maybe something gives first in terms of Shadow (Link) ?

like i have this fan theory about why Shadow (first of all, is Shadow Link, and why he doing what he does) and could easily make it You motivated tbh

i mean tto write a fanfic abt it one day, maybe even with this situation setup included tbh,

but maybe Shadow was also going to iconic places across the worlds (since once again, my personal theory/headcanon is that since theres frequently a Dark/Shadow Link option across multiple games, so he kinda has memories of multiple Links)

in an attempt to find you, because he would, (in this AU) have the best predictions of where ur going after having the Most memories of you to use…

so maybe he's able to clearly see you, being something other than physical himself as well,

maybe he finally gets to your next hideout first, finally a step ahead of you.

then ur ass shows up all heat resistant to their world, and ur slow ass gets got by the beam, everyone’s horrified and poor boys are regretting you ever getting a physical form, bro you think your dead-

and then u just sit up, chest kinda burny, but just like described above, not even a real burn

even better, the guardian takes out ur weapon and u just have to like, square up to a guardian ASFHLJSL-

tbh most battles ur absolutely set,

u got magic resistance, so like wizzrobes who are all magic-based do nothing to you, u can literally punch ur way out a situation, as long as u keep ur guard up ur good, but even if u get hit physically, like u said, bruises at worst, bc at worst in a battle you'd get a broken bone

maybe if something had the strength to like, sever a limb, a step up from broken bones, then they manage to actually bruise u badly + cut you or smth

so basically ur biggest challenge in battles is working up the courage to get into them LMAO

like u know that thing from Oot with the bloody hands and shit?? dead hand or redead or smth?? skulltulas???? (esp if u have phobias related to it, like having arachnophobia like me for skulltulas💀)

(makes sense to them tho bc ur world doesn't have these same monsters, most of them tbh would've had a harder time relating before this adventure, bc now they get to a new hyrule with entirely diff monsters they can relate more lol)

(Oh, and yes. Four is honest to god falling in love with you all over again seeing you sharpen edges of swords by pinching ur fingers, or dipping ur hand in lava casually to help the harder metals soften, or smooth out dents in armor. Time may have also felt some type of way the first time you reached out and smoothed a dent right in the middle of his chest.)

i like the headcanon he knows humans, knows some of their quirks, and how they were the first ppl the other hylian villagers called on to help stuck cows or downed wagons, lots of heavy lifting stuff

but he really hasnt seen the extent of real humans, bc the humans who were in Ordon, well, they lived in hylian society,

why would they need the adrenaline to lift a car when hylians have set up whole tools and systems in all their towns to help lift just a full bucket of water out of the well??

not to mention, i think all the humans in his village were older adults? like at least not the age theyd be doing things like parkour or going to any trampoline parks type of age,

id imagine its more like stories talked about amongst hylians how hard humans can go, and even the humans themselves talked abt things like,

“well compared to u hylians, we have stomachs made of molten lava to you guys really, but we never have to use it, bc u know hylian food works just fine”

and he’s just watching those honest-to-Hylia human mythological feats play out in real time in front of him, like he’s the only self-aware character in the story that immediately clocks the really obvious vampire as a vampire lmao

is the first to either 1. start choking on his laugh as he theoretically knows ur about to jump on the back of a lynel/hinox to ride it around and watch as the others come to the same conclusion OR 2. try to Stop you from jumping on said big monster in an attempt to ride it around bc he gets used to ur human BS quicker than the others and can see it coming a mile away now lol

(that rlly just come off as kind of cryptid statements abt u/humanity, or don't apply in this scenario bc ur only comparison is Earth Rules, which honestly scare every single fucking one of them in the same way as walking on Ganon’s lawn or something, like straight up view ur home planet as enemy territory, the Amazon jungle, the Hyrule wilds if you will-)

Twilight also gets involuntarily volunteered for human-sitting duty too

tbh the only person Not allowed on human-sitting duty, when u guys go new areas esp, is Wild/Hyrule
