Are you going to do a video of the best cross-stitch books of 2025? I'm stitching a pattern from a book you recommended in your last round up and wondered if you had any new suggestions!
lpanne my friend do not tempt me! I was not planning to, but it was indeed a lot of fun the first time... 🤔
the best cross-stitch book of 2024 was Max Pigeon's Cross Stitch in the Forest for sure. Best of 2025, though........ let me get back to you on that!

Making a cross stitch for my nephews using a pattern by @lpanne
I can't wait to finish it! It's going to say "we choose you" with their birthdate underneath. It's a small thing compared to how much I love those little babies.
lpanne replied to your photoset “Tell Me All About It Flower Longhorn Beetle who stopped to pose for me...”
Congratulations on becoming a candidate! (This means you did your department's qualifying exam right?)
THANK YOU :)
So I passed my quals a couple of years back. My department breaks the PhD process into 3 major steps. Quals, Proposal (Writing and presenting what you are going to do for your thesis), and Defense (Writing and defending your thesis).
So I’ve passed both Quals and Proposal, which puts me at having completed 2 of the 3 major requirements. It also means that I’m on track to graduate in less than a year :)

Finished adorable babies! I think I’m gonna turn this into an ornament for our tree. But I have remember that is backstitch is involved, I cannot do four strands. Whoops.
Cross stitch style challenge: Canada Geese Edition! In which I try to mimic the styles of a few of my favorite cross-stitch artists. None of these quite capture the spark that the original artists’ works have (except maybe Pokemon goose, he’s definitely ready to fight), but I learned a lot from trying, and had a really good time.
You should check out the original artists, they are all super talented & inspirational people and your lives will be better for having seen their art-- links & promo under the cut!
The Frosted Pumpkin Stitchery (Cute & fun patterns {they’ve done two celebrating the National Parks!} with millions of tiny details, full of sunshine and smiles)
Satsuma Street (Classy, modern, vibrant -- the artist, Jody Rice, has got to be a professional illustrator, everything she makes just has this crispness about it)
@parvumautomaton (Sassy birds, superheroes, and the galaxy’s most prolific Star Wars stitcher, possibly the most prolific of any stitcher??)
@redbeardesign (really good holiday/thematic hoops with tight, minimal color schemes and loads of sparkles and flourishes, also exceptional product photography)
@mathysphere (loves geese, squares, schmaltz)
Sprite Stitch (a very good cultural phenomenon, 10/10, did you know Pokemon invented pixel art)
lpanne replied to your post: Software Recs Wanted!
I really like MacStitch, which has a PC version Winstitch, I don’t believe it is exactly what you are looking for because it especially doesn’t do number three (i think but i haven’t tried too hard either) and isn’t perfect at 1 and 2 either, but the developer has responded to my emails about bugs and they have tried to fix them in the past. they can’t do it quickly always but I think they do try.
#3 is actually one of the more important ones, unfortunately. I’ve got over 200 colours of my own custom floss that I use for a lot of things, so having to manually chart for them would be a pain. :/
