If Liam's off the booze I reckon he actually might end up writing a handful of tracks on the (hypothetical) new Oasis album. Noel is actually quite appreciative of Liam's writing, his one and only complaint used to be that Liam either took too long to finish his songs, or that he'd give up halfway through because (in Noel's opinion) he'd rather fuck off to the pub. I'm quite sure that wasn't really it of course, there's a fair bit of insecurity and not wanting to bare his soul that we've heard Liam say in interviews about his songwriting: having to find a balance where he isn't giving away too much of himself in his music but still writing authentically, or maybe just not wanting some of his thoughts and feelings to ever be publicly known.
But he certainly has the luxury of time now, seeing how 1. Oasis are still technically an independent band on Noel's own label 2. Absolutely no one is actually expecting an Oasis album to be a normal, regular thing. It's definitely a novelty, and as such the band have all the time they need to write it. They can wait like 10 days if Liam is struggling through a song.
Another bit comes down to Noel's maturity in communicating with Liam. If Liam comes to him with half an idea and is stuck on a passage, will Noel tell him to lock himself in a room and concentrate or would he perhaps help him out this time? He's been fairly supportive of Liam, vocally and publicly even this time round, and he's given him loads of space, but will he be willing to actually collaborate with Liam or will he feel like that's stepping on Liam's toes and stay away? If he doesn't slag off Liam's work (as he has done with his solo work), I reckon we may even see two to three Liam contributions.
In Noel's defence, he's never been critical of the Oasis circle's writing. He had so much praise for Beady Eye, you'd think he was lying. He's fine as long as Liam is actually doing the writing with Gem or Andy: his inner Oasis circle, rather than with what Noel disdainfully saw as industry songwriters.
But the ultimate collaborator for Liam would still be Noel. I wonder if he will finally get that much sought after Gallagher-Gallagher songwriting credit he's talked of for years.
