Attendance limit increased in Loyalsock Township | News, Sports, Jobs

Based on the recommendation of the district’s athletic director, Ron Insinger, the Loyalsock Township School Board approved a plan to increase attendance at sports events at the football stadium to 20 percent of the seating capacity. The vote was taken at the board’s meeting Wednesday night.

The recommendation was based on new directives from the governor which allows stadiums which have a seating capacity between 2,001 and 10,000 to permit 20 percent of that number in the stadium during a sporting event.

According to Dan Egly, business manager and board secretary at Loyalsock, the district’s stadium has a seating capacity of 3,570, so that 714 people will be allowed to be at the stadium for home football games. This would include members of both teams, members of the band and cheerleading squad and all other essential personnel, first. Tickets will be will be given out, two per person so that participant’s family members can attend the games.

There will be someone at the gate to count how many people enter the stadium, Egly said. Anyone attending will have to socially distance and wear a mask.

The decision by the board applies only to fall sports.

In other business, the board accepted the resignation of Paul R. Young II, from his position as president of the board. Young, who will be moving from the district, is expected to resign from the board next month. Board member Carolyn Strickland was approved as the new president of the board and began serving immediately.

A replacement for Young’s seat on the board will be appointed by the board.

Under personnel, the board approved the appointment of Bret Myers, William Deininger Jr. and Brandon Schrimp as school resource/police officers. The new officers were also granted jurisdiction to exercise the authority and power of their positions for the district pending documentation and certification and an order of the countyás Court of Common Pleas. Egly said the appointment of these officers brings the districtás complement of school resource personnel to six.

The board also approved the following personnel items:

* Transfer of Stephanie Smith from part-time to full-time paraprofessional.

* The appointment of Josephine Powley, part-time paraprofessional at $10.75 per hour.

* The appointment of Scott Larson, part-time custodian at $13 per hour.

* The reappointments of Janelle Ziminski and Allison Gaetano as junior high girls basketball coaches at stipends of $2,950 each. Stipends for athletic personnel may be prorated based on the number of completed in-season weeks due to pandemic restrictions required by governmental agencies.

The board accepted the resignations of Dana Williams, Mary Jean Casale and Andrea Molter.

The exoneration of taxes for the 2020 tax year, on two parcels of real estate in the district owned by the Williamsport Home was approved by the board. The tax amounts for the two properties are $58,264 and $2,167. The payment in lieu of taxes will be $57,410. The exoneration is in accordance with the agreement between the Home and the district.

A Memorandum of Contract with the Loyalsock Township School District Independent School Bus Drivers Association effective Aug. 1, 2020 through July 31, 2023 was approved by the board.

Two letters of agreement between the district and the Lycoming-Clinton Joinder Board were given the okay by the board. They cover school based outreach services and student assistance program services.

A motion by board member John Raymond to initiate the process of naming the running track after a George Bossert, a former teacher and principal in the district, was approved by the board.

Board members present were: Charles Edmonds, Christina Kiessling, Valerie Komarnicki, Melvin Wentzel, Michael Zicolello, Robert Leidhecker, Raymond, Strickland and Young.

The next meeting will be at 7 p.m. Nov. 11.
