Are there low stimulation animations for me to enjoy? (requesting reccs)
I'm watching Krystalogy react to Adventure Time and omg this show was so over stimulating and uncomfortable. I picked up the cartoon kinda late when it was airing and only watched a few older episodes just to fill myself in on the basics. I knew the first few seasons were wackier but I didn't realize it was so... much. Looking back, I do remember dismissing Adventure Time because of the heavy saturation and over the top weird jokes. I love the show now but honestly... I wasn't wrong back then.
Same with The Amazing World of Gumball. From just seeing clips of the reboot, it is also really over stimulating with really strange jokes. It feels more intense than the original but tbh, the original TAWOG also had a lot of questionable humour and was incredibly fast paced.
I've really just been contemplating that the media I grew up on--both TV and online--were actually really bad for my brain lol, even though I do still have fondness for some of it. Brainrot did not start with Gen Alpha, even early Spongebob has proven to negatively affect children's attention span (and modern Spongebob seems to be 5x worse). I don't believe cartoons are bad for kids though, it made me want to learn animation and sparked a lot of creativity in me. I do need balance though and I also think people of all ages should get to enjoy cartoons without messing up their attention span or sense of humour.
My understanding of what's low stimulating might be skewed because of my ADHD and already botched attention span but the best I can think of are golden to bronze-age Disney, Studio Ghibli films, and possibly the Wallace and Gromit shorts. Natsume's Book of Friends, season 1 of Bee and Puppycat, and Over The Garden Wall are ambient shows with gentle colour palettes although the latter 2 are a bit more fast paced. If anyone knows other animated works of the same caliber, please feel free to recommend them!
