#low elevation

Would have loved to see this area flooded as it was a few weeks ago after torrential rains in late winter!

Have to admit a perverse fascination with Death Valley. I have visited the park more times than any other park not in close proximity to a place I have lived (Shenandoah now; Mt. Rainier, North Cascades, Olympic when living in Seattle). These photos were taken on a longish visit in 1977, my second time in the park but the trip which caused my fascination. We visited again last month, but it was just before the Easter holiday, and it was impossible to park at Badwater. Did greatly enjoy other parts of the immense park in a very cool April. When these photos were taken, Death Valley was still a National Monument.

Horizontals XIX - Badwater, Death Valley, California, 1977. I guess I am somewhat obsessed with Death Valley as I can count at least a half dozen trips to that rather out of the way desert wilderness since my early trips in the 1970s.
