#Jesus This election year has revealed bitterness, hate, fear, all of which has widened the divide in America. The pandemic has also created chaotic disagreements between people who take it seriously & people who don’t. All in all, Love is becoming a harder task to pursue for Christians. Yet, Jesus’ command still stands strong, like it did 2,000 years ago. He meant it in John 13:34 & He means it now. We are to LOVE each other. I can understand how difficult that may be. Imagine loving someone who lied to you, who physically, mentally, or emotionally hurt you. Even I get snappy with people or irritated and petty over the SMALLEST of things sometimes. But that's when it’s most important to look at Jesus. He was flogged, whipped probably beyond physical recognition, stripped naked and nailed to a cross. He struggled to breathe, yet chose to use His dying breath to ask God to forgive those who hurt Him instead of asking God to smite them all. Jesus knows better than anyone how uncomfortable, undignified, and just downright PAINFUL loving others can be. But He did it. And if He could do it, so can we. I included a list of what Love looks like. If you want further ideas on how to Love people read 1 Corinthians 13. Paul lays out the structure of Love pretty clearly. Pray to God. Ask Him to forgive your unlove and ask Him to show you ways you can love others, especially those who you don’t agree with or who have hurt you in the past. You don’t have to be best friends, but you can be a testimony of how Jesus’ love saves lives. Remember, Jesus never said it was by our perfect Church attendance or how often we pray/fast that the world would know we are His disciples. He said it is by the way we LOVE each other. So, let’s LOVE each other to show the world we are His and He is ours. Loving others may seem impossible but with God, ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE IN JESUS NAME! [Matthew 5:44] This can be hard to do. Like really hard. But if you begin to learn how Jesus loved His enemies, you'll begin to learn His heart and it'll become easier (with faith, time, and dedication of course). To do this is to lead by example for the people. It is not leading by force or tyranny by hate or by anger. It is to lead with LOVE. I think SO MANY of miss that point on in life. We might get this feeling that our enemy is to be hated because they seem to hate me. But to hate them is to become that hate. I dunno about you but I'd rather become LOVE. Ooh wee!
