π MELANISTIC SEAL FOUND IN NORTHUMBERLAND π This beautiful melanistic grey seal pup was found by one of our Medics in Northumberland. Melanism occurs due to an over-development of the dark-coloured pigment melanin and, we believe, only occurs in approximately 1 in 400 seals. Grey seal pups are born with a white coat to camouflage them in a once icy landscape. Their coat is shed at around 4 weeks old and in this case would reveal this lovely black velvety colour. Aren't they beautiful? π #melanism #sealrescue #marinemammalrescue #cuteanimals #loveseals #northumberland β¨β¨β¨β¨β¨β¨β¨β¨β¨ Source: British Divers Marine Life Rescue on Facebook π¦π€π¦ Source Link: https://www.facebook.com/BDMLR?mibextid=LQQJ4d Bonus PNGS: https://twitter.com/SaveSeals/status/1633514489428705281?s=20 https://www.instagram.com/p/CpiTI6jpdnH/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
